Good ear. The Emax HD was used all over the Beastie's Paul's Boutique as the main sampler. Their producers on that LP were the Dust Brothers who also cut Beck's Odelay. It is implied that the same Emax HD was used on Odelay because years later Beck requested them to take it out of retirement for use on Guero to "get some of that Odelay vibe" going on some tracks for that LP.

Yea my friend never sampled with it, just used the library- which as we know is pretty great.

Yes, I think Don’s summary of the situation is pretty much on the money.

As I said earlier there was very little EII action in terms of marketing and samples in the UK, even pre-S900.

I’ll do some digging around tomorrow, but what Don describes pretty much matches my memories and experience of what was in the mags and the market at the time.

I dunno if they're from factory disks or anything, but these are totally the drum sounds from People Are People. I can't find it now, but I vaguely remember seeing them pictured with an Emulator II; likely it's the primary instrument on that album.

Ahhh! So there is a chance this floppy I have might actually come from the Beastie Boys. It always made me wonder who else would title a project like this:

So I’m acquiring an Emax II rack and have enjoyed reading through various Emax threads. Also think I’ll be getting a Mac G3 with it with various software like Passport Alchemy 3.0, so plenty of sound design fun ahead.

I’m crazy enough to try making my own SE synth and transform multiplication sounds too! You watch me!

I only used it for 2 weeks before I accidentally pulled a cable from the main circuit board. I reattached it, but now the audio sounds scratchy.

Luckily I got out of it what I needed. Now it's just been sitting in my storage area for a year doing nothing. Anybody want to buy it from me for a reduced price?

Advertise it as "circuit bent" and charge a premium for it.
