Reasonable architecture, sounds decent and it is nice to see digital synthesis for drums but man that's a good chunk of cash

Can't understand why they'd put the 32 led offset against the step trigs, makes zero sense and is awful design

i agree with jamie. i personally like everything he does but this is even more expensive than the original synth 9which for me is one of the best looking synths out there). big shame because at that price i'm not really a customer

It sounds better than the Nord 3p which is more than 1000 less but I thought Modor products were nicely priced until this. For this kind of money I'd get the all analog SOMA Pulsar-23 drum machine

I am going to explore the demo's of this ... the fact that it's full-on digital, and completely synthesized and not a bit like some more recent fully analogue instruments is potentially good, and the NMf-1 sets the standard ... price though... hmmm

The random function sounds interesting:

Can't see anything about probability though (i.e. per-step in the sequencer) which would make it tempting for me (apart from the price as others have said).

the step sequencer can be 16th & 32nd notes so i think thats why there’s 32 of em.

im into the sound, layout, digital drum synthesis, etc. but yeah that price tag isn’t doing them any favors at all. maybe they’re basing it off of the price of other boutique drum machines on the market (the alpha base comes to mind) or trying to ride on the success of their polysynth?

A bit boring sounding... well i could say "polished". A bit too polite IMO.
You can get a full analog, thru hole, built like a tank Pulsar23 for that money, i don't understand that pricing.

You can get analogue Jomox or Pulsar for this money ... in principle I might be interested in "high-end" digital, not setting analogue on a "better" or "best" pedestal, but I am not sure what this has to offer over boxes at half its price ...

thats how i feel. analog or digital is totally irrelevant and i usually end up preferring digital anyway. but yeah, i already have a machinedrum, which might be its closest competitor, and im not sure this brings much more to the table.

Almost any cheap box can spit out these digital sounds, what's with the price?

The manual is on line and the MIDI implementation seems pretty decent (and published),

but yeah, even though I love the sound and UI of the NF-1, this price point for a digital drum machine is tough to accept. Maybe more extensive videos will help explain/explore the features that make it unique.

The manual is a good comprehensive explanation... there's a lot of complexity in the various sound engines which could be impressive... and a lot more comprehensible (to me) and repeatable than something like the Pulsar. The purely synthesized nature of its sounds might set it apart from sample-based instruments, especially when there modulation options to run during playback.
I don't properly understand how it does its timescales, not sure if there's a misprint around 3/4 & 6/8 settings ...
Its song-mode could be an element that has been missed from other drum machines ...
More demo's needed ...

Re-read the manual, and it does make sense ... I was being thick ... you enter the step you want as a repeat/loop trigger.
Listening to the website SoundCloud demo's, there's much more percussion and less of the EDM/techno/whatever groove box synth bleeps and filter sweeps the KiNK videos portray ...

if it were a monster i don't think the price and digital nature would matter, it isn't though

it really seems way too pricey. id take a chance on it if it was in the $1000 ball park. i guess without many demos or first hand use there’s no telling how good it actually is or sounds. i hope it doesn’t break the company because the NF-1 was really nice.

What do you mean by "the memory" Jamie ... it's not a sampler to need it for that, and it stores a lot of kits, 96 patterns and 32 songs of 192 patterns ... though surprisingly it doesn't load/save these to SD/USB ... maybe that's what you meant?
I had a look at the manual, and 6 voices could sound like a lot more since each has an alpha/be pair ... for instance open and closed high hats, a ride and a crash cymbal or two different toms ... something like the Jomox Alpha has separate voices for these so it's 11 is not actually so different. Rythm Mk ii has 8, again individual.
I'm thinking the Rythm, Jomox, Pulsar and Gotharman's are comparisons - although all quite different beasts ...

with the alpha-beta im ok with 6 voices. realistically i dont use many more than that anyway so thats not a big concern for me.

I actually dig how this sounds from demos. That price though..

i can understand and respect that and i honestly thought i wrote somewhat bare bones tracks but even then if i take a typical pattern on my 808, octatrack, rd8, a4 anything i can think of really, i am blasting way more than 12 voices (not polyphonically obv)

What would be good if the bugs in the NF-1 were fixed

ive never owned one, just tested one and thought it sounded superb. what bugs are there?

Nothing major really but a bit annoying:

There are a couple of issues with MPE, same note played twice and pitchbend ranges being incorrect.

The Editor can crash the NF-1 as well from a mac at least if some controls are moved too quickly requiring a power on off.

You are right though it sounds great.

There are also some minor issues with program changes and USB midi... I'm sure there will be another firmware update in the not too distant future that addresses known issues..

like program changes via midi or just in general? MPE is something i will probably never use, same with USB midi.
