I have a sensel morph that I use for finger drumming, and I don't have the space to have a whole electronic drum kit in my studio. My question is this: is it possible to just get a midi kick controller (or hi hat controller for that matter) without having to buy an electronic drum interface? It's not clear from poking around on amazon if I can somehow get, for example, just a Roland KD-7 and have that control the kick drum on Logic's Drum Machine Designer. I'm guessing it's a TRS jack from that sort of thing...

To the best of my knowledge - No!

I've been setting up an electronic drumming project for the last year, I don't believe there's a dedicated MIDI kick drum pedal commercially available and I never even found a DIY builder making anything of the sort. I wasn't quite looking for the same use scenario you describe but I did a fairly deep dive on it.

I use an eDRUMin with a KT-10 kick pedal and a FD-9 hihat pedal. Feels good and triggers great!

I had a mess around with the audio to midi trigger in reaper. What I did was get a peizo and wire a 1/4" to jack to it. Plugged it in to my interface and used it to tap a rhythm. You could place it on the floor and stomp on it to get your kick. You have to map the midi note to play the correct drum sound though and play around with thresholds and stuff but it's really easy to do. Try it, it's fun.
