Don't you need ilok in your life anyway?

I tend to avoid anything ilok-pace related , true ,I miss out on a lot of good stuff ( soundtoys, softube etc..)

Without discussing the Midiquest look but well about the graphics, it is possible to make nice and functional editors/librarians.
Just a matter of time, patience and ideas.
Look at my Prologue or Matriarch panels ;-)

Simple , because I want to be able to install, load and back up my plugins without any hassle .
I don't want a third party program involved .
The only two exceptions I have are Reaktor and studio one

Cubase MQ problem here on Windows 10. Running Cubase 10.5 Pro and MQ 12 Pro. I've been getting support from Michael (and a big thank you to him as he is patiently working towards getting things fixed)

I wondered if I anyone might have encountered this problem and if there might be a work around. I really need MQ to work for my studio.

I have got MQ set up and the plugin is communicating with my Rev 2 keys. I can play the Rev 2 keyboard directly and change patches and settings via the plugin. My controller keyboard is a Virus TI2 connected over USB ( potential issue maybe.)

With an MQ instrument track in Cubase, if the plugin and synth are both on MIDI ch 1 then note data from the Virus gets through to the Rev 2. If I swap the plugin and synth to ch 2-16 inclusive then I cannot play the Rev 2 via the Virus.

Looking at the plugin Monitor Window the problem seems to be that, when on ch2 for example, the note data being sent into the plugin by Cubase is still on MIDI ch 1. This is regardless of the Cubase track MIDI channel selection and the Virus output channel selection.

Is there anything that you guys can think of that I should change in Cubase?

Hi - Live 11 is crashing for me immediately after opening any of my MQ12 VSTs. Is this happening for anyone else? Ideas? Thoughts?

Stay away from this rip off app.
I try to use it with Z1, but there are full of bugs and it is useless.
It is impossible to switch between Osc1 and 2. That means you can’t edit the parameters of Oscillators.
There is a cursor to move around to see each section of synth, but it doesn’t work.
I suspect the developer isn’t bothered to test it with ios device.

Not all synths are created equal, some have critical midi bugs that cause all kinds of problems

I've emailed Michael more times than any other company and he's always worked on my problems and fixed most of them, some just couldn't because of the synth

MIDIQUEST didn't work for my setup either for various technical reasons, but the technical support was phenomenal. This is a very complex and broadly reaching piece of software that requires some fiddley tweaks to get working. Definitely not a rip off though.

That editor for Z1 costs almost as much as used Prophecy.

I am usually patient with some bugs of synths as the developer eventually fix them. but this one is unbearably horrible.
You can’t even turn on Osc2 because there is a pull down menu on the top of it.
That curser is unbearably buggy and you need to shift up Ipad to reach LFO. This is the garbage app.

The guy needs to get his act together and he doesn’t need to hear from someone to fix this up. He knows it or doesn’t care.

This is the worst MIDI editor I’ve ever used.

Don’t buy anything from MidiQuest, you’ll regret it.

being able to take your entire library and change envelope settings on every patch at once and other generative functions are so much more than a randomiser

Unprofessional crap app

Been using it for several rack synths for many years. No problems that could not be resolved.

But it does take a certain degree of competence to configure because of the hundreds of synths, their methods of communication, plus many different midi interfaces.

Michael provides excellent support.

I still own (the paid for) full version.
But it crashes all the time, so for me it is barely usable and Michael's support didn't get me anywhere. Nearly every time he didn't get my mails, even tried out 3 different ones, when he got them (we're talking 40 mails or so) he stopped replying again at some point, talked thru the forum (which seems to be gone as well).
This is a very stable studio computer, nothing here ever crashes (well, besides the Ableton betas ;-) )
I provided bug reports, dmp files, asked for debug versions (I am an alpha and beta tester for a couple of music companies), everything.
Maybe at some point I will start to try to get the support again for a sw which cost me 400€ iirc, but I was so frustrated to I stopped bothering and now use Knobkraft as a librarian, and maxforlive devices.

This stuff isn't easy. Midiquest Pro when I first installed it took some time to work out.

One thing people seem to not grasp about this is the editors are mostly not designed by Soundquest, there are far too many hardware pieces to own them all. End users etc. have used MIDIQuest Pro which allows you to make your own editors for your hardware if you have the tech skills.


This means obscure hardware editors, like my hardware unfortunately, can be barely if at all used by anyone, designed by an end user etc. We worked out all the issues with my Xpander, and it's a struggle with the Memorymoog, some weird issues with the editor where it saves presets with reversed on/off states.

It can be really frustrating, I'm not going to lie, but I get it, this is a one man operation, some of us have complex setups that confuse things, and the guy is playing damage control with a couple hundred editors VS our setups. Not to mention M1 support, which I haven't even attempted to set up.

A lot of the editors in Sound Diver were user made as well.
I know the Waldorf ones were all done by either Waldorf or some of their beta tester/sound team and handed over to Emagic.

I still like that "Unisyn" thing, but never actually owned it. Seemed like just the right amount of a GUI, and was easy to navigate from control to control. I'd probably even be happy with a whole screen full of text entry boxes for a lot of my stuff.

I liked it too. With that said, one needs to read between the lines. There simply isn't the demand for such a complex application, or someone would be on it. I asume motu figured this out. To 2nd guess a developers business strategy is quite silly imo... You didn't, but as a beta tester for a major DAW, reading the public forums often is quite amusing.

Also, imo, I think the majority issues are with the various midi interfaces, combined with the various individual hardware synths and their ways of getting midi in and out. Thats just my guess. I could be wrong. Its based mostly on forum feedback. The new vst generation has to consider how things worked in the past.

I don't know why Michael hasn't replied to the above user. Ever time I had questions, or had a problem, there was a same day reply.

I am not talking about working with complex sysex stuff, I am fully aware of all the incorrect information in all the sysex documentation out there, and I am definitely not pointing fingers when it comes to this nightmare.
Also my midi interfaces are fully supported (2 mio10) and vetted for by MQ.
I AM talking about basic things, opening the setting of an instrument and after that closing it either by OK or cancel, reliably ALWAYS crashes MQ. Opening different windows and closing them as well.

I've had some synths that always crashed it, and some midi loop meant it crashed my PC or at least needed to restart

Yep even though have K26Cr with KDFX still hold on to trusty K2kSv.3 for that very reason sample the K26Cr patch with SMP-K then after maybe a few more tweaks using editor onto the patch list/librarian of Midiquest little bit of PITA but works so the K26Cr's sounds can be in a set that's easier to utilize in a manageable manner-nicehandytool for my purposes folks

Fwiw, stuff i use, and to my knowledge working 100% with midiquest is listed. Have I thoroughly tested each hardware function with all midiquest functions? No. But I have extensive libraries for most listed here. I spent weeks just transferring Unisyn libraries to Midiquest. If you have the pro version, there is a way to do that, but I'm doubtful it would fully work in my situation. I have done enough successful editing to be grateful, because a lot of these rack synths have a horrible user interface. Many have specific editors, but I like the consistency under one roof, plus being able to search for a patch among all my synths using Midiquest.

So do I complain when there is no alternative other than specific editors for certain synths? No. DSI pushed Suntower and IMO just the library system alone pales in comparison to the midiquest system. If there was editor/librarian competition, I would love it. But I don't see that happening. As a matter of fact, perhaps the opposite, and this is relatively very expensive software.

Anyone using MQ Pro on an M1 Mac? Do the VSTs and AUs work? I'm running Ableton native so wondering if I'll have to run it in Rosetta to be able to use MQ. Anyone?

Also write to the developer Michael and ask this. If you plan on using MQ often, I think it's almost a given that you will not only refer to the extensive manuals and lots of videos, but contact Michael for direct support. You are asking about certain OS's. There are many different midi interfaces, plus hundreds of synth modules. This is a complex program and takes time to learn, especially if you don't know much about midi. But once you have things going, especially if you have rack synths in the back of the room with tiny displays where you have to menu-dive, MQ is very helpful.

As you may know, this is NOT...plug and play.

If you've had to use stuff like Unisyn or Sound Diver I dont think its too tough to jump into. I've only played with the demo, but I was able to fire it up and really quickly get it to grab the contents of my Microwave XT, XV3080, Blofeld, Bass Station 2, it even worked with my SE50/70 and SRV processors hah. It does some things differently but its pretty similar to using SD. Only reason I haven't bought it is I still have my old Sound Diver setup working in a virtual machine so its a little too much. I've only seen it go on sale once a couple years ago (I think), should've grabbed it then.

Can anyone comment on using Midiquest controlled by iPad vs using the iPad version. ? Do you prefer one or the other ?

Ok so yesterday, I was ready to give in and finally buy MQ12.. I had the demo for 12.0 Pro installed, had my Waldorfs, XV3080 and Bass Station installed and working great. I tried to add the Boss SE50 and SE70 yesterday and it no longer pulls the instruments from their FTP site so I removed it and installed the latest demo for the regular MidiQuest (Im not buying Pro as I have no need for the plugins), and it won't install anything. It shows me the list of all the available instruments but won't actually download anything. Installed the MQPro demo again and same results. Tried to log in to the FTP site manually, that it just filled with text files telling you to go download the latest version now. I've removed everything, reinstalled both demos a few times, and nothing.. 12.2 DOES work, but the only reason Im able to is because I moved my installed instruments from the 12.0 install and copied them back manually. Not looking good for that $300 purchase I was about to make.. Is anybody else with the latest version running into this??
