The instant recall support on MIDI-controllable FX rackmount units such as my Quadraverb and DEP-3 have made me feel a lot more freedom in experimenting with different combinations too. Previously, I found the 3 or 4 settings I liked and tending only to stay with them because I ran them as AUX effects on my mixer and when pulling up different projects I'd always have to spend 5-10 minutes trying to find my original settings if I had changed much before.

The Fast Tips data is also extremely awesome. After discovering it I was able to quickly set up all of my devices with ease. (attached screenshot)

If you have 1 or 2 external MIDI devices, I would say for sure, seek out cheaper/free alternatives. But at the rate my dream gear from the 90s is going for firesale prices on Reverb and Ebay, I get the impression I'm only going to be getting more and more value out of Midi Quest as time goes on. For me, after an admittedly longish 1 month learning period for using Midi Quest and how to manage the software (read the manual), it saves me time and gets me to writing music much faster, which is what I was after in the first place. If another solution does that for you, nothing wrong with that at all

I would bet the Mono Evolver is a great one for MQ comparability, my beef is really with my older synths, since they don't update SysEx synchronized to MQ, which isn't MQ's fault.

So far I'm only about halfway through the manual, but you will have to do a lot of testing on your own, there aren't too many walkthrough type tutorials here, it's more about testing the setup for yourself. This can be a detriment for sure. I didn't realize the VSTi plug in handles all MIDI for the plug in so I set up the Xpander (no keyboard) with two MIDI tracks, one for the controller keyboard and one for the Xpander input, this doubled up the SysEx messages etc. and crashed my MIDI setup in OSX.

Thats probably more the Qs fault to be honest. Its even kinda janky with Sound Diver, and the SD adaptations for the Q, Micro Q and Blofeld, were written by some of the guru guys Waldorf had testing and making sound sets for those synths haha. I remember the Q does this weird thing where it constantly switches itself back to Multi-Mode and in order to switch it back you have to either get up and do it yourself, or request the Global Data again and it will put it back over Sysex heh. The Micro Q does the same thing only, the Micro Q has no Sysex message to change it back so you have to get up every single time and switch it back. I remember in the early days of the Micro Q they had to give it the largest timeout buffers as well because for whatever reason it took forever to request and send banks back and forth over SysEx, and if you didnt wait long enough it would time out constantly. Works pretty smoothly nowadays though, once you get used to its quirks.

I've been using Midiquest since the early 2000s and never had an issue unless you count old synths that don't play nice with Sysex but that's not MQ's fault.

Soundquest - if you can do the Minilogue, please do the Prologue. That can't be a hard one to get a hold of. I'd love to be able to see the Main and Sub layers on screen to see what they are doing.

Also, does anyone have any cheap favourite synths that MQ has enhanced a lot? I'm thinking a mono Evolver is a pretty good bet, also Reface CS. My JDXI if I can make an editor for it

It depends on what you are attempting to load from the K2000. If you are loading a Set, which is all of the data in the instrument, then yes, it can take several minutes and this is "normal". If you have selected a single program to load then it should take just a couple of seconds.
