Thanks, that's informative and to the point.
As a potential customer (I do have a number of synths which I'd love to have a single app to deal with), may I say I find the loading screen very off putting - it's very large with little content, it's black text on darkish gray, and the progress bars don't always move or even appear. It would go a long way towards inspiring confidence in the app if:
- the size were reduced a lot, just to have the needed info, at any rate not more than that of a standard 'install wizard';
- the background were changed to something less intimidating;
- the progress indications were more lively, so we knew the app didn't just hang. For instance, even if you're waiting for the synth to reply, then at least say so, and keep a counter ticking somewhere so that the user knows the app is working. Something like 'Data requested. Waiting up to N minutes for the reply... 0:01... 0:02....... 1:35.......'.
I know that in an app that is focused on talking to so many different units in so many different ways, the UX design of that dialog may seem like a petty trifle, but it's the one thing every single user has to deal with a lot, and it's the one point where users need reassurance that things are happening. It would go a long way towards making a user comfortable, which is an essential part of deciding to buy the product...
