Never been an 808 fan, sexual healing aside, I just don’t like the sounds and especially, it’s modern usage.

The build looks brill though, and if the 909 comes out I’ll definitely buy one to mangle through some granular/distortion/waveshaping effects

This one is not for me. I would much rather see Behringer put out an analog drum machine with an original design in the same spirit as the Neutron. Maybe that's coming too eventually.

Not sure how well this will do in the current market. It'll have to be pretty inexpensive if it wants to compete.

Kinda wish that did something unique with their first drum machine.

It's easy, if you are into innovation, experimentation, r&d of new sounds in music , maybe this machine is not for you, and there are tons of devices, modular and eurorack, and software that can satisfy all your needs. if you are into the good ol' school sounds then it is. I don't get this hate on what B is doing.

Another 808 clone is nice and all, but I already have a modular 808, TR8, Tanzbar, an original 808 and several other 808'ish drum machines. Hell, I'll probably buy this one too, but we need an SP12.

I’m not judging what people may or may not do with this machine. This is gonna be an extremely successful product and it’s gonna sell quite a bit. Don’t be so paternalistic with people's tastes in music and just be glad this exists, even if it doesn’t cater your particular interests.

This guy probably bitches about the existence of generic prescription drugs and public domain novels from the 19th century.

The problem with doing clones of nearly 50-year-old drum machines vs 50-year-old synths is that the synths where/are complete engines: Pro1 & Minimoog are still to this day respectable and flexible voices so direct clones are a viable sitegeist ..

The org 909 and 808 are very limited and direct cloning is just not on par with 2018, Roland gets away with it do to more flexible sound, modern UI, twist and fx (I still think the TR8 sounds nothing like the original despite some saying it´s 95% there) ..

so the only thing these direct clones have is the original sonic value, but 1:1 is just a daft decision in 2018.. I mean will the 909 clone not have HiHat tune (creative/logic vs purist).. Uri I sent you a message (not public) with all the magic mojo ingredients needed for making modern analogue drum machine: underlining analogue mojo ..

Now craftsmen are stepping up the game: the Erica Synths Techno Drum System sounds amazing and is very fresh and flexible .. really a great sounding NEW drum system..

Look more forward to the Behringer RD999 rather than the 809 clones tbh ..

8 physical outputs + separate trigger output + audio input is hardly what I would call stingy. Saying it has no individual outputs is an untruth.

LOL, where have you been in all those Roland threads?
The sick thing about this is that Roland did all the trying and testing, even tested the market with reissues like the TR8 and TR-09, and then someone else comes along simply copying, right down to the artwork and layout.

How many people want a TR808?

Enough that the originals are selling for 3000-5000$ on a regular basis.

Behringer will sell a boatload of these because they are the only company to actually give people what they've been asking for for the last 20 years. This is the whole point of market economics and capitalism working the way it's supposed to. The market has had a need for this for decades and electronics prototyping has reached the point where highly desired clones can be created and sold cheaply to people who want them.

It's like people are mad that technology is allowing consumers to have inexpensive machine built electronics.

"God, I'm so mad that I don't have to spend thousands on an IBM desktop from the early 80's to use a computer. All these companies making cheap 8086 clones should do something original and avoid giving us better specs for lower prices with higher reliability year after year after year..."

All BS about IP aside, I think it's fair to bitch about the existence of "generic" synthesizers and drum machines. And this is definitely generic in the non-legal sense of the word.

+1. This post is so on point. Erica and Hexinverter and TipTop and Jomox et al., have all been upping the game and pushing things forward. You don't need to add a whole lot of controls to an 808 to turn it into a proper drum synthesizer rather than a preset machine. But there's no such magic mojo on this box. No imagination.

With a labor model that can most charitably be described as "questionable." But less charitable, and more accurate, adjectives come to mind.

It would be nice to actually discuss a behringer thingie without everyone questioning if such thingie should even exist in the first place. If there’s something stuck in the past and unoriginal is those coments in behringer threads.

The interface looks like it's moved on from the original 808 at least.

I think the Acidlab is going to have more of an issue than Roland will with this release. TR8/TR8S are different enough. Boutiques are more volca competitors than intended to be raw replacements.
