I did my part and don’t expect a successor to the Prophet X for a decade if ever.

The new flagship, if Sequential is ever allowed to develop something digital hybrid again (focusrite seems to love keeping than stuff for Novation) had better damn well be a mix of PolyEvolver and Pro 3.

Oberheim Matrix is clearly coming and a BOB-5 seems extremely likely. The P10 might sit at the top for a while.

Some first impressions, serial # is 19xx so if this really is from the latest batch I can see why they discontinued it due to low sales volume but boy are people missing out. It came with 2.2.2.0 installed and I’ll probably leave that on there based on the recent discussion about delay when changing patches, they are close to immediate on this firmware.

Sounds excellent! Really really lovely filter that sounds a bit different to me than their other instruments, is this specific iteration re-used in anything else? It’s very good.

Some of the 8DIO samples are embarassingly poor, in particular the strings used in preset F2 P23 AgileStrings has at least 3 important keys in the default octave range that have major issues. It’s incredible QA didn’t reject them, the D2 (the one below middle C) in particular has a weird pluck noise at almost all velocities, and another key sounds like someone was rustling paper around when they hit record.

I will probably spend ages figuring out how to wipe some of the default stuff off of this and reorganize everything but I can tell based on the synthesis engine and filter that it’ll be worth the effort.

I am very happy with the Synth itself especially at the price, build quality is great as you’d expect and the keybed both feeling and responsiveness is wonderful. I’m not sure why but I expected the response to feel a lot worse than my Nord Grand but I played a Piano patch and it felt both expressive and immediate. Glad the Prophet X exists and that I was able to get one new before they’re gone forever.

Patch creation from INIT is surprisingly fast, the VS waves in particular being spread across the keyboard sound really good and it’s intuitive how to use them. The touch strips are great as usual and work with those sounds nicely. I’m not sure I would ever have picked up the PX if I played it for 5 minutes in a music shop, but the complexity really isn’t bad at all and I feel like I know my way around a lot of it after half a day which is nothing at all for a complex instrument (looking at you, Moog One).

It’s cliche but the Synth sort of begs to be played, I love the implementation of this filter so much and really want to hear UDO’s version in person now since I did some research and they the same one in their Super synths.

I may have just hit on the worst sample of the bunch above, most of the other ones only have minor issues or none at all, I really like a few of the drums surprisingly and will probably actually use them in my music – but that specific bowed strings sample needs to go into the garbage pile. This will be a powerhouse with excellent samples on it and more time to master the modulation and other parameters etc.

Yes, it's a beautiful synth that is very playable, with lots of poor samples. I removed the entire factory set and installed whatever I wanted. I'm honestly considering buying a second one and having a 2-tier PX live rig simply because I can do almost anything I need with this board.

That was my thought entirely. I’m just not sure I have the mental energy to map and load that many samples yet. Phenomenal work my friend

Just bought one from Sweetwater today! I am excited for this synth. I also downloaded Lady Gaia’s sample tool as well. Really looking forward to learning this instrument.

Q: Can you pan individual voices, like an Oberheim? For example, first note played is panned hard left, 2nd note played is panned hard right, etc?

I've loved this way of creating stereo since I played the OB-8.

There is a pan spread parameter in one of the VCA pages, which pans alternating notes left and right. You can determine the amount of panning. You cannot, as far as I know, set specific panning for every single voice individually.

That might be close enough. The old OB-8 actually had pan knobs on the side of the unit, one for each of the 8 voices. But I think I panned them pretty much hard left/right anyhow.

The PX has glorious stereo filters (in 8 voice mode, 16 mono filters otherwise). You get much more voluminous and deep spatial effects this way than with just panning. Poly synths with stereo filters are the best.

I reached to Sequential, and they confirmed there were NO new revisions for the PSU. It's more of an issue of the odd PSU having issues delivering the right voltages; all new PSUs sent out were the same just preadjusted. Or so Sequential says! Good enough for me to still give it a shot!


Just wondering, did Sweetwater send it out double boxed, and the actual PX box still factory sealed? I've not had the best experience with the last couple synths from them, figured I'd see how these are sent out before jumping on it!

Not double boxed. Don’t worry about it, arrived fine.

I actually had a synth get wrecked when they double boxed it, their packer did not fill the extra space in properly and it banged around in there.

I’d prefer a tight shipping box like Moog uses but I assume Sequential must have stopped shipping them out that way.

They did somehow open it to throw in the candy bag which was the worst candy bag I’ve ever gotten (wish I could review those ) but I couldn’t even tell where they had done it. Was definitely new inside.

My box wasn’t even dinged up bad, just one very small mark.

Enjoy it, I think anyone who wants one and knows the caveats with regard to samples and having to manage some stuff should grab it at the price it is now, the stereo filters are amaaaaazing. Makes me really want an UDO Gemini.

It’s still early days but I think it’ll be a forever keeper for me.

Well folks, I am just about to join this PX club. Mine should be arriving tomorrow. After going back and forth about buying an amazing instrument which has been discontinued and has odd ball problems with the PSU, i took the leap! I am seriously excited. I also went in on the 8DIO CP-70 expansion pack. Anyone else have any expansions or program downloads that are a must have ?

I was going to buy some 8 dio expansions but I ran into an issue on checkout. I sent them an email 5 days ago and they still have not got back to me. I decided to buy from Espen Kraft instead and he was very quick to answer questions and he was awesome in getting my prophet x sounds to me same day I purchased. Top notch service indeed.

I've emailed Espen privately as well and he was perfectly fine to work with. So based on personal experience rather than those silly videos, I can recommend him and his packs. At least he supports the products he sells, unlike 8Dio.

I love my Prophet X and I pulled it off my chopping board years ago. I love the sound, I love the interface and the potential that lays in its unique concept. And because of that this thread was always grabbing my attention.

I remember many months ago, after every time this thread popped up as recently updated on first page of this board, I was so excited to see, if maybe some new sample pack landed, maybe someone released some great patches (btw: does anyone know, where are Replicants to be downloaded? I believe it is one of the big recommendations for new owners), or even - my fantasy kicking in - maybe Sequential did one last update to it and introduced that Vintage knob macro. Or... some other exciting news?

And now every time I open this thread, first thing I think about and usually am not surprised, is topic of Espen's infamous video. I am sure that everyone and their dogs have a solidified opinion on this. Can we, please, please, leave it in the past, where it belongs, and focus on wonderful things that are yet to come, which are possible with this wonderful instrument?

I am loving this keybed. Action is nice, smooth and responsive. Filters are excellent.
Some of the factory sounds are hit and miss for me. But I do love the sound. Deep machine for sure. I feel like it compliments my Rev2 and Prophet 12 nicely.

Those $2500 units on Sweetwater didn't last long! I looked again a few days ago and they were all gone.
