tx18z, despite being 4 op, in some ways has more features and possibilities than tx7 but also vice versa, so try reading into those and pick which one is best for you, either is a nice buy in terms of what you are looking for.
updated thoughts on this. ok i agree about the velocity on the volca.
but you can still have it as a MIDI CC (which isn't the same as playability,
i know) - it is still a good way to have FM sound in an easy compact
portable form. c'mon; a little portable FM box with a software editor?(Dexed)
there's a slight issue with long releases and clicks from notestealing,
but there's still a lot you can do with it.
so that tells me: noooo do not let go of the TX802 - which is the
'proper' 6-op version: 8 parts, 8 outs
but then, comparing 6-op with TX81z 4-op, i realise that the extra
waveforms on the 81z give you an easy non-destructive way to
switch through harmonic content - or 'brightness'. i'm new to 6-op
and i'm noticing that editing is maybe easier on the 81z.
so there's a choice there, with portability, or multi-outs, or more
immediate editing.
(edit: if i had to choose one...?? still the first one i got: TX81z
cheaper and more available. bearing in mind my use is
more in a house/acid/techno etc. context, not as a 'keyboardist'.
-but it's the volca i'm using at the moment. a combination of
81z and volca could be good, if you want the 2nd part you tend
to want when you've just got the 81z)
