I got to thinking about the past several years of difficulty I've had in trying to just make music for myself, sometimes for others, sometimes for a career, for money, sometimes not.

I've had so many serious setbacks over the years from bullies, thieves, hackers, thugs, administrators, sometimes even friends and family. I've been effectively held back from my own career and hobbies. I'm about 20 years off schedule at this point.

I noticed that usually something bad happens right after I make progress.

So I got to thinking about how I'm not the only one. I started to remember some famous music celebrities who supposed couldn't release their music and launch their careers because corporate CEO's got in the way and had them boxxed in via contracts.

I remembered "Ledbelly", that one blues guy who was brilliant and popular and people kept stealing all his music as if it was theirs. I think he ended up in jail for crimes he didn't commit and then getting murdered or something like that.

And of course with the COVID shutdowns and the warfare and trade warware. And all that BS.

I know some of the rest of you probably know exactly what I'm talking about.

So what the hell is it??

Why won't they just let us make our music?

@ tapenade I blame "hustle" culture re: why won't they just let us make our music? This is the era where one can't just have a hobby that interests them for whatever reason(s), it has to be "monetized" but when what used to be (or is it still) known as "mass media" promotes "success" as extrinsic rewards e.g. money, "fame" (most likely for doing nothing) coupled with cultural homogeneity it's a recipe for disaster.

Maybe the music doesn’t need to be “made” in the traditional sense.

It should be created and stored away in a vault. If you think about making music as a way to release ideas, it becomes much easier to cope with.

Write some music every day the same way you would write in a diary about your thoughts and feelings. Over the course of many years, you will realized that by simply expressing yourself with no other expectations is extremely liberating.

Who's "they"?

you're not the only one, life is difficult, you will meet manipulative people throughout your entire life, don't let them stop you from making your music, if you truly love music nothing will stop it from coming out of you.

maybe you need to change your tactics with things.
