Atmos setup for work and enjoyment?

I’m considering making my next room ready for mixing atmos.

I don’t know much about this yet so I gotta ask, can a mixing setup also be used to stream Atmos movies and music? Or is a consumer atmos receiver necessary?

I’m really curious about this because I’d probably end up using the setup more for enjoyment than for work, at least at first.

One should always have whatever the consumers are using to check that you are doing things right.

Funnily enough I have to refit a hall, and as I was looking at the multiple speakers it occurred to me that I had accidently made an Atmos dubbing theatre. Just waiting for the 143" LED screen...

Off to buy some Blu Rays.

I understand what you're saying but in real life, can an Atmos movie from Netflix or a song mixing in atmos on Tidal be played on a mixing setup?

Like for example an RME setup for converters with Sonarworks multichannel used for calibration (connected to all 7.1.4 speakers).

I'd rather know what I'm getting into before spending thousands on speakers and converters.

Yes that is normal.

You just need to work out where you are plumbing it in.

Currently I have decoder that spits analogue into one of my RME boxes that feed the speakers.

You can probably do it in some software, but I like having hardware as it never changes/crashes and is representative of what consumers will hear your mixes on.

Your decoder outputs analog line level into your RME’s inputs?
And you got a blu-ray or similar plugged into your decoder, is that it?
