Now when these start to arrive, I do wonder what musical applications an Apple Vision Pro could be used for.
I don't think I'd like to use one in a studio setting, but I can imagine some performance possibilities, mainly for artists perhaps. Say for example, when you need screen access, yet you need to move around on the stage. Yes, you'll look a little like a loony, I guess, unless you add some art to it for enhancement, but some electronic artists have a kind of visual performance potentially different from standing in pretty much one area and playing a single instrument. So could work out provided this gives some advantage. Probably not for everyone though.

Takeaway so far from Nilay are the observation that seeing the reality around through the cameras on a lesser lit stage, at times anyway, might be somewhat gruesome for a performer.

There are already a few VR music making and playing applications out there, mainly for the Meta Quest. Not sure how many will be made available on the Apple hardware but I'm sure they'll get there, eventually.

After watching Nilay Patel's review I realised that you can also use your Mac and having the display move with you inside Vision Pro. Though afk you would have to rely on hands as controllers.

So strictly, one wouldn't have to wait for things to get available if you got other Apple hardware running them. So the VP would possibly be some other way to interface with other Apple stuff you got.

Probably will more interesting with apps that take advantage of any unique possibilities in the Vision Pro, but that might take some time to appear.

Sadly no plans from Korg for visionOS as of last summer (Noisegate).

I tried to find out if there was a visionOS app store one could look at for what's available, but haven't found much about visionOS apps, except common non-music stuff.

AniMoog Galaxy by Moog Music comes "specifically for Apple Vision Pro".

Hudson Heavy Industries Spatial Symphony is a music app designed exclusively for Apple Vision Pro.

The rest of of the app presentation is full of platitudes so hard to judge. I'm not sure "designed exclusively for" is an attractive feature necessarily.

Couldn't find anything on the company and no youtube presence I could detect.

Search terms used: for finding music apps on the app store with Vision Pro support. Some game like titles found as well, but ignoring those.

I really want to hear a use case about this thing being used as a 4k monitor with Ableton or some other DAW. I'm tempted to buy one as a monitor for my Mac, and the idea of a 60ft wide 4k screen in front of me at my desk is extremely appealing.

The upside of a 45-inch bent display like the Corsair Xeneon Flex 45WQHD240 OLED (around $2000), for example, is of course it does not weigh down on your nose. On the other hand you can't fold it into its neat little case and take it to another studio.

A big display wherever you are was one the most clear attractions I could see once the VP was announced, but I'm growing more sceptical. Maybe this is a clear case of better wait for the next revision.

There are tons of AR Glasses if all you need is a wearable display. They're all way less than the cost of the AVP and actually look a lot more comfortable, too.

Allowing you to put your Mac display on screen inside? That's kinda a requirement here.

Not sure what your missing. Just look it up, The company I work for has been using them since 2015.

If any of those lighter AR glasses can work reliably for lengthier work and not cause eye fatigue or damage, I'd say that model would be a better alternative than the VP for 2nd display purposes.

Obviously Apple knows this. I don't know why I'd get an Apple Watch either. Which doesn't mean any of those two have no value. I just don't feel it.

AR Glasses are just a display peripheral. The AVP is an entire computer strapped to your face, not just a screen for your desktop.

The question isn't, "Will the AVP be a good display alternative for my Mac?"

It's "Can I run my DAW and actually get work done using only the AVP as an alternative to my Mac?"

That's currently the other way around as there exists no proper DAW software for the Vision Pro. From a music production perspective, the VP makes no sense in the short term unless it can stand in as a totally huge portable display, until music production software arrives en masse.

That there exists lighter AR glasses that can fill that role at a lower price, just removes any such attraction for the short term. Of course, it's necessary any of these alternatives actually should work properly. I'm pretty sure the variation of quality experience is shifting between products and I do know that some alternatives costs as much as the VP anyway.

The main issue to me is the weight.

As have already been noted DJs streaming without an important local audience could do that with 600–650 grams weighing down on them. If you're not primarily streaming or doing something inside some VR environment where the audience is the prospect of DJing, with something like the Vision Pro on your face, is just daft as I see it.

What about music production?
