Hi all,
Since Apple started offering Dolby Atmos / Spatial Audio on their Music Platform this summer, a lot has been written about the differences between Apple's binaural rendering and Dolby's binaural rendering options. I've been experimenting a lot with 360/180/Spatial Audio as a side project and thought it would be interesting to offer the option of an online comparison. In the links below you'll find various options of a Dolby Atmos music mix we did (with kind permission of the band "Spitting Ibex" and Lewitt microphones who have the source tracks of the songs on their website).
Downloadable mp4 with DD+ Dolby Atmos mix:

you can play this file on a media server and listen on your Dolby Atmos system (soundbar, 5.1.2, 7.1.4,... speaker system). Or alternatively put the mp4 on your iOS device and listen how it sounds in Spatial Audio and (optional) headtracking with Airpods Max/Pro/3d gen.
You can then compare that binaural version against the Dolby binaural rendered versions with each having different distance settings for beds/objects:

An explanation video in 360 with Spatial Audio can be found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vawdo19elSc&t=45s
Here you can look/listen around by dragging the screen with the mouse on a computer or move your phone/tablet around (using its gyroscopes). Or watch it on a VR headset (I'll update this post with a 2nd Order Ambisonics link video on Oculus once it's published). In this video there will be 2 playbacks of the song, first over the speakers of the room (recorded with a near 2nd Order Ambisonics Octomic) and secondly the Ambix render straight out of the Dolby Renderer.
Let me know in the comments, which binaural version you prefer on
headphones. Please also note that the binaural versions are not meant to
be listened to on speakers. Thanks!
