I've read some threads on this, but all in vain!
Im using
- the tiny LPK25 akai usb keyboads
- cubase 7.5...
- steinberg ur22 soundcard
- asus i7 laptop
When recording i hear the sound fine (right on the beat), but the midi notes are put in too early, so on playback its a mess. If i make the latency buffer size bigger the shift (to the left on the arrangement line) is bigger!??
Ive tried checking/unchecking:
- Adjust for Recording latency (in VST Audio System)
- use system timestamp for 'windows midi' inputs
- with or without the ASIO-guard
Im not sure what to do next??
Groet,
Mickey
Hi Mickey -
I'll start ... and just FYI, chances are really good that eventually you'll get it sorted out just fine.
1. Are you sure Cubase is pointed to the ur22 interface (in Device Manager, or maybe preferences VST, sorry not at the DAW now), not some generic sound card in the computer or ASIO4ALL?
2. What keyboard are you using, and are you sending your MIDI via USB or MIDI cables?
3. Which VSTi are you using?
4. What buffer size?
5. Did you try unchecking "Use System Timestamp"?
A problem that sounds similar to yours was extensively discussed on the Cubase forum a year or two ago, but I haven't read much about this occurring in Cubase 7.5, or even 7, so although there is a lot to read there, it may not be directly helpful to you.
There is an article
Solving MIDI Timing Problems that may give you some insight as well, though it was written before Windows 7/8.
