While I am OK with the reliability of Cubase 7.5.2 in a Windows 7 Ultimate environment, what I am finding is that, after having Cubase open for a couple of days [I'll leave the project up and running during the day when I go to my real job], I will usually [but not always] have Cubase crash [appcrash], requiring a complete reboot [the crash somehow makes the interface inoperative]. It is annoying and time-consuming to have to go through a reboot on a fairly regular basis. Anybody got a fix, or a workaround for this issue?

That sounds system dependent, not Cubase specific. Probably a device (USB?) going into sleep mode, messing up access and memory allocation for some unclean code. Make sure sleep modes are disabled in your power plan.

It is recommended to disable the "USB Selective Suspend" in the Windows Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> USB settings -> USB selective suspend setting

Note that there are either one or two entries depending on whether you have a portable device or a stationary system without an additional battery. In any case, all entries should be set to "Disabled".

What audio interface are you using?
This could also be related to another behaviour that we are investigating where certain Interfaces are affected.

I am using a desktop Asus, with an i7 3770 CPU, 2 GB Nvidia graphics card; and 2 internal 1 TB HDs.

I am using an M-Adio Profire, with an ADAT LX-20 feeding 8 additional channels through the 2626 via lightpipe.

Incidentally, while the 2626 is perfectly fine for almost everything, the one feature I'd like to have is the ability to do direct monitoring when I'm tracking. Apparently, I MUST use a Steinberg interface to allow direct monitoring. Is that correct? If so, got a MR816CSX you might want to trade for the Profire 2626?

Just what I suspected this is a known issue.At some point Cubase will drop the audio of some audio tracks when working with Tascam and M-Audio interfaces.

In most cases the solution was to update the drivers of the sound card.
When using an M-Audio interface that do not have a recent update the solution is to use ASIO4ALL until a new driver is available.

Regarding your question, yes, direct monitoring is only available with Steinberg interfaces.
