In the past 2 weeks, Cubase Pro 14 had been acting kind of glitchy and today it just stopped responding. Although I can launch it, it takes at least 5 minutes to launch and then it takes at least another 5 minutes to open a project. Once the project is open, it continuously freezes for at least 5 minutes and once it unfreezes, as soon as I attempt to do something (hit play, open a plugin, enable/disable a send, etc…) it immediately freezes again. This is so frustrating and disturbing on so many levels. By chance has or is anyone experienced/experiencing the same thing? If so, can you please steer me in the right direction?

FWIW, I’m on a PC running Windows 10.

No idea on your issue - could be a multitude of things to check first like update drivers for audio interface / windows updates / check you are running things in admin mode where necessary etc.

Do a memory (RAM) test.

Remove memory and re-seat them and reboot PC.

I run C14 with Windows 11 Pro with zero issues.

So I did everything you suggested, however, I still have the same issue. As of right now my main suspicion is that the night before this happened, Windows 10 forced me to do an update. What’s bizarre is that my computer is running great, except for this issue with Cubase.

If you have previously created a Windows Restore point *before* this update was installed, you could try rolling Windows back to before that point.

Note down the ID of the update and you can always exclude that from installing again.

Odd that it only affects C14 though!

Unfortunately I did not create a restore point. I’m going to see if I might be able to revert to the previous update, unless of course it would not be possible based on the fact that I had not created a restore point.

I would try to start Cubase without loading 3rd party plugins. In my manual (Nuendo 13) the section is called "Disabling Third-Party Plug-ins". Just in case you have some 3rd party plugin that is now no longer fully compatible and maybe needs an update or something.

And I would also then try a completely clean project from scratch.

Also, if you get it to start fine without 3rd party plugins and the new clean project is fine then what you can do is save that, restart with 3rd party plugins, and try to import some tracks at a time from a project with problems to see if performance changes. Just in case you have some tracks that are fine and others that aren't.

I tried that last night and unfortunately it didn’t resolve the issue.

That being said, I’m in my studio right now and I was able to miraculously open a project which is playing/working fine, with the exception that there are quite a few missing plugins, specifically VST 2 plugins. I was able to enable them via the plugin manager window and the project is running fine. I wonder if my issue happens to be associated with VST 2 plugins?
