Is the latest always the best?

I'm still using Cubase 7.5.

Like 13 more than any other, and that is since 1990. When it was called pro 24(I think). 6.5 was a good one also.

Been in Cubase/Nuendo since 7.

13 is my favorite by far.

12, but Nuendo as I cross graded a few years ago when they had a very good deal, but much the same thing besides the post features.
Reason I liked 12 is the synth plugin undo which has been removed, and I preferred the previous channel inspector as it takes up too much room now with 2 tabs on the left. Still love it as is of course, just that 12 was my overall favourite.

You can disable the new "channel tab" and just work with the inspector as before. It has the same functionality.
I didn't gel with the channel tab either.

And you still get access to the fader via the vertical tab and inserts too as in V12? I need to check that out if so.

Also, get this one. Steinberg said that VSTi undo support working in V12 was a bug and never intended, so they "fixed the bug".

But I just want it to make sense, somehow.

The way I see it, a vst plugin is a vst plugin whether synth or effect, and there's no *logical* sense to having undo for effects but not for synths. I don't understand it, and besides us all wanting it and Steinberg using the bug answer, they can't provide a logical reason either. Synths are still VST plugins. Weird, hey?

I have to give it to Ableton and Studio One for that feature, and very soon Bitwig too. PT can't undo anything and neither can Logic, so you have to rely on a developer's own plugin undo. This is one of the reasons I still use a lot of Waves plugins in PT btw.

But I strongly suggest you get a Behringer X-Touch One. People have built a script for it that makes it autobank, so you just click a channel and the x-touch follows, always! You'll never mouse a fader again in your life.

Hi, well since I have decided to sell off *all* my hardware synths except for my MoxF, Virus Ti2, Integra 7 and An1X, I will actually have quite a bit of room to put a nice control surface. But I have to fully investigate as I need one that works perfectly with Pro Tools also. Do you remember those old cubase modular hardware controllers? I have the transport one and a fader one still sealed, but I am not sure they work in current versions and on new Macs.

Do you know if the Behringer has PT integration? I honestly am edging towards the official eucon for PT as I believe they work with other DAWs and Steinberg and Logic are officially listed as compatible. To be honest I have 2 ipads I don't use, I am considering just using a 10" ipad with the free control software also. They work just fine.

Well if you are able to reinvest the money from all those synths into a nice controller solution that works well with both DAWs, maybe you should look into an Avid S1 + Dock. I don't think there is anything better.

But if I'm not mistaken the XTouch also works in EuCon mode, and is the only one that autobanks in Cubase/Nuendo. So if you are looking for a very cheap but great 1 fader + transport and a good wheel, it is a good candidate.

About the SB controllers you mentioned, you mean de CMC series right? I have the AI Knob one, and it still works ins Nuendo 13, but I'm on Windows. Macs usually have shorter compatibility cycles, so you should check if there are available drivers for your version.

Regarding the iPad, I know it is personal, but I never felt good using touch screens. It is very hard to form a muscular memory for the functions, from the lack of tactile feedback.
So I have one with a TouchOSC map I made for VST Multipanner, so I can record automation more easily, but for the rest I use the XTouch and a keyboard remapped through reWASD, only for key commands. It gives me like 60 buttons plus a dedicated scroller that I mapped to event volume. It works perfectly!

Avid S1 is 1800 AUD here, totally affordable once I start selling gear. So that seems like the right one for me, good call.

Edit, I just looked at it, the CMC is a knob not a fader, and I don't think it's for volume. Sigh. If I can get the transport one working in the meantime though that will be a boon not to use the keyboard.

Edit 2, No go on the CMC with Sonoma and native apple silicon DAW mode. However, the CC121 is still weirdly fully supported and has an OS 10.14 driver. It's made me kind of want one. Found a second hand fully functioning unit from Japan for 380 AUD shipped. I don't remember the OG price, is that worth it? It is just so easy to integrate in Cubendo, and I'll have plenty of room to add another surface for PT, they can sit side by side or one on either side of apple keyboard. I am thinking to grab that CC121 as there are sellers on reverb already asking stupid prices for them since they stopped production (like 1000 AUD).

Can’t think of any case where the newest isn’t the best.

The newest might need som getting used to. And they might not be worth the cost. But they are better over all.

Cubase 12 and Nuendo 12 is my favs.

ATM I just don't seem to bond with the GUI changes in C13

Have you seen the latest version? They have made some touch-ups, and its much much better.

I have stuck with it and to be honest I'm fine with the GUI now. The other day I opened 12 and geez.. what an ancient thing!

You should give it a try and let the initial shock pass. The software itself is much improved.
