I am a technical person not afraid of wiring and programming, but I have no experience in lighting. We are a small low budget, contemporary church group meeting in a classroom with overhead lights. The goal is not to use the fluorescent overhead lights during worship/lesson. I bought a DMX controller and 4 LED fixtures, but they are not powerful enough to light the podium where the lesson is given. The ended up being colorful wall lights. I need a way to light the podium. All setup must be put up an hour before and taken down. I would like a spot light to light the podium and allow for the speaker to read notes at the podium. Preferably, the light would be behind the speaker on a stand or 20 feet away from the podium at our Mixer/Control area. Low budget. What should I use and where should it be?

You can't do both with one source, get a small gooseneck light for the notes and a spotlight to illuminate the speakers face.

Behind the speaker won't work, it puts the speaker in the shadow so nobody will be able to see thier face and blinds the audience at the same time.

At the FOH position makes more sense, what you want is an white only LED leko/followspot and a stand to get it as high as possible.
