Neither, actually. It was intended as a cheap home βhi-fiβ speaker voiced to sound decent when placed on a bookshelf, bass supported by the wall, and optimally used with the intended companion subwoofer, a twin 7β paper cone servo controlled sub, the YST- SW100, which in its own way is just as fast as the NS10.
It was discovered after the fact to be effective at judging mixes and accidentally became a global icon seen in almost every serious studio in the world.
