I have a bn251, which sounds great too. I love the esthetics of the nlp. Do you mind sharing how much it was? I really like by beezneez, but I think I would have gone with a flea in retrospect. I can get a flea 251 for less than 4k now with the sale going on. My next mic is probably going to be a tonelux 37 since it’s on sale for 2k with power supply.

I’m still amazed some people do not have plush on ignore list. Do yourself a favor, it only takes a second and you get peace of mind for ages.

Sounds like you are conflating the singers performance with the quality of the microphone and recording - two separate things.

You can have a poor recording of an excellent performance or vice versa.

Many moons ago I was recording a vocalist and I kept hearing a strange raspy distortion that made me think my mic, or cable, or preamp or A/D was broken and I started troubleshooting while asking the singer to continue. Finally I made my way into the singers booth and discovered that the distortion was built right into the singers voice box

My worries were over.

After judicious use of the "more posts by X" function, I indeed chose to use the Ignore feature.
However, I made my own choice as to which username to apply it to.

It's unfortunate some GS members feel the need to trash others' efforts in order to prop up their own fragile egos. I've seen it happen repeatedly on GS. The price-tag for that is that people will be reluctant to fully engage with the GS community and has already caused even some high-profile members to leave.

I used to get a wide variety of music clients at my studio so I found things to appreciate in many styles that weren't necessarily my personal favorite cup of tea.

I mean... it's a great microphone..... but it's nothing like an RE20, what with not having a variable-D network and having a narrow condenser capsule....

EDIT never mind, I see you already answered. AFAIK the RE520 has a big presence boost that can't be bypassed; there's a HPF switch though.
I don't mean to nitpick, I'm always interested to know the mics folks like yourself choose.
I can understand that choice from the way you describe the job, IMO this mic does a good job of adding plenty of presence without getting harsh. It's set higher than, say, the peak in a 58
I heard about one PA company in Sydney that adopted RE520's for choir and large instrumental groups, of all things, and at the time I was doing school and church concerts. I bought them for that, then promptly stopped working at that company so I put them to work as a live vocal mic and now they're my usual choice - my daily live workhorse in fact and they do a great job for me. A few of the singers I work with even bought their own coz they liked mine so much. If I do have to mic up a choir for live SR I still use these but for a pure recording job I'd choose something else
