EDIT never mind, I see you already answered. AFAIK the RE520 has a big presence boost that can't be bypassed; there's a HPF switch though.

I can understand that choice from the way you describe the job, IMO this mic does a good job of adding plenty of presence without getting harsh. It's set higher than, say, the peak in a 58
I heard about one PA company in Sydney that adopted RE520's for choir and large instrumental groups, of all things, and at the time I was doing school and church concerts. I bought them for that, then promptly stopped working at that company so I put them to work as a live vocal mic and now they're my usual choice - my daily live workhorse in fact and they do a great job for me. A few of the singers I work with even bought their own coz they liked mine so much. If I do have to mic up a choir for live SR I still use these but for a pure recording job I'd choose something else
