LOL, if your QC blowing up isn’t hype deflation, I don’t know what is.

I still like my QC. It beat out a Kemper for my tastes. I had the Kemper for years and had a healthy stack to favorites but I prefer the interface as well as the sound. Both are great gear though.
For bass it was an unexpected huge improvement. I only use for recording though and live might be totally different.

In more relevant discussions, I would be hard pressed to purchase the quad cortex/fractal/kemper, when IK multimedia amplitube TONEX does the same thing for $400

If you don't need something like XLR outs, parallel outs for feeding a guitar cab (with the cab sim turned off) while simultaneously feeding the PA or without the need for all the effects thats a good idea.

i hear there was gonna be possible for the machine to emulate a guitar sound, but it has not yet that capability,no?

That would take this machine above the clouds fo real.

I was also wondering, kinda the same question, but with the "archetype" plugins, what exactly are you getting there you cant do with the QC?
Or is it just saving you the process of emulating the tone?

There is alway space on GS for Perfect picture that is timless for what Neural Quad Cortex and Kemper and such plug-ins represents.

“Plug-ins” and digital hardware units are mutually exclusive. They do the same thing… but it’s like telling someone to go fuel up a Tesla.

I rarely reply things like this because there's simply no point but I will say, as someone who has a significant amp collection and who now uses a Quad Cortex to record with, when you're focused on the tools rather than the product you've lost the plot.
Having the ears to get to your goal is the deal. If you can do that you simple don't care about petty insults.
Use what you want and make great music. its lame to put people down for the tools they use.

Sure, use whatever you want as long you don't record guitars on albums with plugins/simulators. Especially if you have no experience in what audio recording is about.

It's just sounds awful and no serious musician/guitarist is doing it except for the kids as they grew up in a digital world and have no idea why they are stressted up.
Some musicians/Producers blend the modern with vintage world to have best of both worlds.

However the positive is that kids today are asking for pure analoge studios as they got "awake" and realise it tha $hit that make an emotional journey and move the listeners soul.

It has nothing to do with gears you can afford or not.

Agreed. His statements assume that success relies on whatever analog may provide which digital cannot, but we know that those discrepancies contribute ZERO to the success or failure of one's career, or one's album, and only very slightly to one's guitar tone. In some people you can feel the frustration they must feel when they plug in and are unable to sound like Hendrix or whoever their guitar god may be. The easiest way out of that uncomfortable feeling is to blame the gear, and for some people it doesn't even require facts or anything based in reality.

I have a friend who was against recording DI’s for so many years claiming it was voodoo. Even after explaining to him I can go back to every project and reamp tones “through a real amp” but he was so prideful that the tones he dialed in had “mojo” and there would be need to go back and get new tones because of the essence of the moment.

Now he is going back and recording DI’s of his old projects so he can “remix” them… hmmmmmm he didn’t refer to it as re-track.. so he liked the tracking but wanted new tones..

He also doesn’t like it when I remind him that if he would have recorded DI’s to begin with (even as a safety net alongside his raw tone) then he wouldn’t be in this mess. Oh but his original tone was “better”…. Delusional grandiose

I’ve owned some classic amps, some not. Worked in studios and music stores. Did live sound for a few years. I feel like I have a good handle on the sound of guitar amps, and I’m 100% convinced that modern modeling and capture technology has erased the gap. A while ago I moved into a condo and I knew I had to have a good silent amp solution. I tried a bunch of things, including amps into isolation cabinets. All the time, referencing a traditional combo amp of some sort. The best solution I found at that time was an amp head into a Two Notes Torpedo Studio, but I went with the OG Kemper because with a decent capture I had a hard time telling the difference between it and a recording, and having a single box that did effects and amp modeling was super useful and it was about half the price.

Jump cut to today. Capturing has gotten better. Neural DSP leapfrogged over Kemper (a bit) and Tonex long jumped over both of them. Modeling has gotten a lot better too. Neural DSP, Line6 and IK Multimedia have caught up to Fractal, so much so that I couldn’t think of a good reason to keep my AxeFX 3. All I miss is the fan noise.

Anyway, if you think that an amp modeler or capture device is going to have any effect on your ability to make a good sounding track, you’re high. Actually, I’ve heard enough poorly recorded guitar tracks in my day that the chances are you’ll get a much better recording, unless you have the funds to hire a competent engineer in a great studio.

For sure. It’s hard to spend money on amps when you can spend money on hardware that you can run your entire mix through.

The reason I (almost) prefer real amps is because the likely hood of having character is much higher, and using amp sims is more likely to have your tones sounding like everyone else and not sticking out as being unique - yet you can also put effort into making your amp sims unique as well but it’s just not the same experience.

Having said that.. the workflow efficiency trade off isn’t worth using real amps unless I’m doing some trickery to make single takes sound like dual panned stereo with some phase trickery I just learned about

I find the opposite to be true with hardware amps. They are more similar to each other, and limited by their electrical properties, whereas plugins have the ability to emulate those common amp tones *and* also stretch them into something new and unheard. I don't love Guitar Rig but quickly sifting through its presets shows just how quickly you can find radical tones. I have a slew of fx guitar pedals that I love but it's not anyway as easy to get twisted tones from that hardware.

I do understand what you're saying about finding character in hardware amps. That's been one of the toughest challenges for software: authentically replicating that unique character. And although many plugins still can't achieve that complex organic sound, we've now have several that can do it well.

Ahhh I should should have been more specific.

For me it’s the relationship between the guitar amp, speaker/cab, and mic.

Being that the amp has the least amount t of influence on tone, it still needs to push the speaker a particular way.

The tone on Gojira album “From Mars to Sirus”. I have not verified that tone is from real amps and mic’d cab, but being that it was realized in 2005 is a safe bet. That albums tone is an example of the “unique character” that I have not hear from amp sims and I think it has mostly to do with the way the speaker was mic’d.

Having said that… would I choose that tone for a song I was working on? No - it wouldn’t hold up as it doesn’t have the clarity or fidelity etc

The QC is an excellent product and a decent investment. The UI and integration with the cloud. It is seamless.

That experience is worth the money over mid range competition like line 6. (I’m a fan of the fx just not their workflow)

I have the neural dsp plugs too but I haven’t used them since I got the QC. The biggest problem with plugs is audio interface inputs and getting the correct gain for clean. Anyway, I don’t have that prob with the QC on vintage or modern guitars. I don’t even have to convince myself it is like playing an amp, it just sounds good and for direct recording excels which makes the product fit my workflow.

I think it’s the first multifx where I haven’t mindlessly scrolled through presets. Went straight to the user banks and started to build and I’m extremely happy with the results

So this has been out, what, three years now? Are they getting close to having hardware/software integration/interaction as they'd promised? One major selling point to me was the ability to move this between HW and SW formats.

In the cortex, can I run 4 separate channels through it, 2 guitars, bass, lead guitar (or whatever combo) to offload cpu usage?

In other words, can I use it as outboard mix effects?

Is there any latency there real amp Vs QC/kemper etc?

2-5 ms, depending. Headphones will bring the time down vs using a cab or through monitors (sound travels roughly 1 ms per foot I think)
