I've had limited time with the ASP880 but here are impressions thus far.

The converters sound really good. Nothing is too hyped. The pres sound really good too. Compared to my Daking, are just a shade tucked back in the mids and maybe only a touch brighter on top. I prefer the mids of the Daking but not by a huge margin. These pres are worthy contenders. I also compared them to the pres in my Apollo interface using the Neve model and I found myself preferring the Asp880 pres. The UA neve sounded dark and undefined by comparison. Eq goes a long way to solve that but I didn't get that deep into it.

I only gave it 4 stars in sound quality because I have better pres but not better for the money. For the money I'm not sure I've heard anything this good.

With the ASP880 I can make professional home recordings. It is light enough to bring to the studio when recording larger setups externally (drums for instance). The sound quality amazes me every time. The high cut filter makes it easy to get rid of undesired frequencies already at recording. The sound can be described as crispy, clear, smooth and warm, all at the same time, in a transparent manner (for more "punch" to the sound I sometimes use my Golden Age Pre73 along with a compressor). The only two weaknesses are that is it only 60 db of gain, which is sometimes too little when I use ribbon mikes. Also, it has no built in USB, so I have to connect it to via my Focusrite 20i18. There are switches to change the impedance of the mikes, but I have not noted any real difference when using these. I recommend it to anybody that wants to take a step towards a perfectly balanced and professional sound.

Wonderfully easy to use 8 mic pres, xlr and Jack ins and two instrument inputs I the front. Can be used up To 96k where it becomes 4 inputs instead of 8, has adat out also ADC send/return connectors, separate leads will be needed for these, but can be used to link compressors/limiters, etc. No on/off switch, but sound quality is excellent..

You won't find a better value set of mic preamps in a 1u footprint anywhere. Great sounding in a clean but satisfying way, you get digital outputs with really good conversion, useful impedance switching that gives you some tonal options for whatever mic you plug in, pads and filters per channel and a couple of great sounding DIs. If you're looking to expand your channel count by using ADAT inputs on your interface, or are looking for good preamps for drum recording, the only real competition in the price range is Audient themselves, with the ASP800.

I bought my ASP 880 in October 2014.

Pros:
- It has lots of great features, like being able to plug line ins directly to the A/D and switch between the mic pres and the line ins - brilliant! It is really like having 16 inputs.
- The mic pres are nice and clean.
- I had an issue with mine overheating, but could find no information of other users facing this same problem online. After contacting Audient, they pointed me to Momentum Audio Sales, the US importer. The owner, John, actually called me to discuss what might be the problem and how to remedy it. Apparently the overheating is extremely rare (which explains why I couldn't find anyone else with the same issue). While my issue was an inconvenience, John went above and beyond in helping me - that's a big plus in my book.

Cons:
- My Apollo can only take one of these.
Buy one - you won't be disappointed!

This thread says it all...
Dead Audient ASP880?

Don't waste your money on this unit. It WILL die on you and repairs are a headache... and then it will die again.

My unit doesn't work. Bought it used, but everything worked when I got it. But then it started to break down..

Only three channels A-D function works, and that's only the return. One channel burnt and I got it fixed for about 300 euro in 2021 or so. And another channel broke down a couple of years ago. I'm not gonna get it fixed since it will just break down anyway. Using the few functions and channels that work until I get something I can trust. It's truly a horrible piece of gear. I bought it since I like the preamps and really wanted the units functions. But what does that matter when it isn't working? And how would I really know that it is a good unit when it isn't working? Because of that, it definitely gets the lowest score.
