Define "original Neve Carnhill" please.

I guess he means the LO1166 designed by Neve and Marinair though I have read there was a 2nd manufacturer (it wasn't St Ives Windings/Carnhill)

Makes me feel strange, if a Neve clone builder/seller has to put down another one. Esepcially that there are plenty of posts spread on gearslutz from users waiting for their pre-ordered and already paid items from you.
Not trying to offend you, but to make your business look better by putting others down isn't very humble...

I was not a company making products at the time, just a regular person building stuff and I commented on it as such, I was not fishing for sales by putting others down (I did not sell 1073's back then) but I apologize for that comment and it it made you feel strange.

anyone else notice difference between normal pre73 mk1 and mk2? i bought the original first one some years ago when it came out and my second one some 2 years ago and there always seemed to be a bit of difference in sound. today, beeing bored i decided to measure (i am NO expert, i don't have a clue if it's right or wrong but i just did it my way) the noise floor of both units. no mic cable in the input, just the units beeing recorded with maximum gain. results are surprising. i attach the pics of the frequency curves of the noise. so the mk1 has almost no harmonics while beeing a bit quiter, the mk2 has lots of harmonics and more noise. did they change THAT much in the mk2?

did the same with 40 gain and it was the same, just quieter.

Are you sure that you have not mixed the two? MK1 had ground loop issue that is easy to fix and the ground loop picked up some AC that might have
the same properties as your measurements. For me the noise dropped about 1.5dB when fixed on MK1. It might also be that you have different
magnetic fields. Did you have the units in exactly the same spot when you did the measurement?

you're absolutely right - sorry - i mixed them up:

mk1 is the one with more noise and harmonics
mk2 is the one with less noise and flatter line in the pics

i have them next to each other in my rack feeded by the same electric socket.

how can i fix the ground loop on my mk1?

You can send a email to golden age and they will send a short description.
It is quite easy, you need to cut a part on the pcb. No soldering etc, but a
lot of screws.

All that 80dB of gain and only clean recordings vidéos or reviews. At some point it should bring some dirt right? How is this? I want something to color (subtle OR NOT) synths, but not a fuzz or dist pedal as I could use a classic & nice preamp too.
So how is that sounding volume 11 ?
