Guess the remote audio recorder!

Okay, some clues are in order... the files were 24/96 wav's, and the two double-A batteries that power the unit seem to have a usable half-life of forever-- the 16 gig card onboard would capture a concert that was EIGHT HOURS AND SIXTEEN MINUTES long at that rate, and it floats atop an ingeniously clever steadi-cam, because it weighs all of four ounces and change.

Give up?...

It is NOT the Nagra LINO (since it weighs 6 ounces).

I think I am of the generation that just slightly missed employing the word "sick" for all things deserving great praise, but I tellya, connecting the thing via USB, dragging the files into iTunes, and then using Final Cut's 31-band EQ and their processing they call "Loudness" (with two parameters, "Amount" and "Uniformity") and getting a fairly decent result-- highly, highly diseased.

I agree with you about the battery life. My DR-2d guzzles batteries. My DR-05 sips them, and the controls are much better laid out, IMO.

Also, I get the funny underlying feeling that a goodly bit of consideration went into the precise housing, orientation and "protective structure" around the stereo mics-- two kinds of mesh screening and the steely barrels that look like they'd survive several bashings-- I love it when manufacturers allow for me being a klutz and an idiot, and I try to never disappoint them!
