Need help choosing tascam set up!?

Im looking mainly at the Tascam DR-05 or the DR-08. I'm unsure which would be much better. I would like the 08 because it's slimmer and I would like to take this in my pocket everywhere for recording lectures and lots of other stuff. but the 05 is $75 and the 08 is about $140. I'm trying to figure out if the price difference is really worth it?

The Tascam DR-40 is on sale at Musicians Friend for something like $137 right now. It has XLR inputs. If I were buying one of these, that's what I'd look at first.
