I so want the Chandler germanium drive pedal, so I'll probably hunt it down in near future, if that's what you're talking about. I like the ID4 on some sounds, on others not so much.

But it definitely helps some sounds that sound a little weak or tame, and I think the Voyager sometimes does. The DI is good without anything engaged too. I haven't had too much good results with the Rhodes through it with saturation as it dulls it a bit much and my Rhodes is voiced very fundamental, but Bass I like very much! I like Rhodes trough amp and I bet through a Chandler pedal.

Anyone else using the Instrument Driver? I'm really interested in it, but there is a limited amount of information and sample sounds. I'm after a general 'analogizer', as lofty as that is, to sweeten up sampled drums and synths.

So I'm currently building a studio rig for recording synths and drum machines. Stuff that ranges from 80s roland juno etc, to 90s korg m1, etc, upto current DSI prophet, nord lead 4, and drum machines like roland 909, current dsi tempest, analog rytm...

will the ID4 work as a combo of a di + preamp? in other words, can i plug say a juno 60/106 or a dsi tempest into it, and go straight into apogee interface? and does anyone have feedback from this? i know many people in pro studio situations like a di into a nice preamp like api or something, but i'm curious how this sounds.

Yes, it's a good DI, with gain. I run my DSI Mopho X4 through it. It's got lots of gain but I usually run it with the gain all the way low with the DSI. It's cool to have filters and variable drive/saturation to add to a polite synth like DSI. I also use it to dirty or warm up sounds while mixing, and often use it to distort backing vocals or even main vocals. Some thin whimpy cymbals can sound nice with a little lowpass and some drive to give it more attitude and meat.

Right I get di but can if also amplify the signal from your morpho to go into straight a converter input? Without an additional preamp?

Because if so this would be worth looking into as its actually cheaper than getting a really good di plus a really good preamp

Yes. That's how I use it. It's an active DI with gain, and I can easily clip my Antelope Orion with it, that's why I actually dob't gain much with it, to keep some headroom. I don't think it would be a good idea to run this into a mic input as it's line level balanced output. It's not like those live sound DIs designed to balance an unbalanced instrument to go into a mic pre in a mixing desk.

I use the Overstayer Saturator as a for my Kemper Profiling Amp. A little clean gain from the Saturator straight into the Apogee. Works great! Before, I was really struggling to get enough level out of my Kemper without clipping the Kemper internally. Also, the DI sounds great. Since I started doing that, the Kemper seems to sit nicer in the mix.

I've used the ID4 for synths directly into the converters. It's actually what it was designed for. It's a great fat sounding front end.
