If it´s of the same quality as the eq-rangers, then we can expect something great

Well if they didn't, what kind of an emulation would it be? The question should be how accurate the emulation is..

Let's hope it impresses me more then the passive-active pack from Softube, because I don't think they are in the same league as the Massive Passive emulation from UAD. Let's wait and find out! heh

Hi guys... we have just released the SPL PASSEQ beta installers at SPL DOWNLOADS. ;-)

So everybody can try it now...!

Let me give you some info... ok:

-YES, there is a TDM version!
- There is a MONO version (multi-mono as well), which is only 50% of the GUI.... you can use it on mix channels and if you don´t need M/S...
- M/S: yes, we added an M/S mode...!
- BX: it´s not a secret that the BX software team is handling the SPL software emulations, so yes, this is another fine cooperation.
- Quality: we modeled this with EVERY detail, in fact the software that we modeled from the left channel of our hardware unit is closer to that channel than the right channel of the same EQ is!!! And we are talking about a matched mastering hardware unit...!

This plugin is also quite CPU/DSP hungry, as the circuit has to be calculated all in one go because of the inductive nature of the beast... but the plugin REALLY behaves just like the real thing...

Hermann (CEO of SPL) a/b-ed the hardware against the software in our PMC equipped test studio and after a few a/b switches he grabbed the volume knob of the hardware and turned it down bevause he couldn´t believe that he was really switching... there is literally NO difference in sound between the hardware and the software...

Is this beta installer a time-limited demo version? I mean, I would like to try it out right this minute but if I only get one 14-day demo of the product I'd probably wait until I've got a serious mix to use it on so I could demo it in that environment... So, I guess the question is, if I install this beta version, will I still be able to try out the final demo in a few weeks or months?

WOW! Really impressive! It has a wonderful, clean sound that I like alot! Unlike many other eq-plugins you hear how the sound changes in a very pleasant way, but you don´t hear the eq. Great plugin, SPLthumbsup

I have played with it for only 20 minuts or something so it's not realy enough to decide if I like it or not.. My first feelings are a bit mixed.

I know it looks like the hardware, but I'm not very happy with the lay-out actually. I like the lay-out of the UAD Massive Passive, or the Brainworx Digital V2 EQ for example a lot better. But I will get used to it for sure, so forget about it.

About the sound, I'm not having the same WOW feeling like I had with the UAD Massive Passive, but perhaps I should not compare them to much, I guess when you compare both hardware units, they also don't sound comparable. The thing is, when I boost like 6 dB at 4.5khz, it sounds like adding a good EQ, while the UAD MP somehow adds clarity without sounding artificial.. (difficult to explain in english, sorry)

Am I correct in believing that the Q is a bit more narrow on the Passeq, compared to the UAD MP?

I should say however that I like the sound when you boost the low frequencies on the passeq a lot, and cutting (all frequencies) I find also very natural sounding!

Again, these are my findings after only 20 minuts play time. I will test this eq a lot more so I can make a good final judgement. It is nice to see something native that might be able to compete with the UAD MP finally!

I'm not sure how much you know about the Massive Passive, but it is a characterful, unique thing. I wouldn't use it as a basis for comparison to anything else, really. It's an unusual EQ with a very particular, almost "exotic" sound.

I have the UAD version and it's really cool. But it wouldn't be my only EQ, that's for sure!

I'm testing it out right now.

WOW!! Amazingly silky!!! I'm on my first minutes with it, but I'll go ahead and write that it's probably the best hf-air plugin I've ever tried! Damn!
I'm going 10db hf at 12k in a relatively dull mix and it's absolutely harsh free and natural, probably better than the brainworx mastering eq.
I'll come back.

Edit: It uses 0.37% of my i7 with a 512 pdc. Light!
