I mostly followed that thread, at least it has a sprinkling of fairy dust to justify its price. This one looks like a basic clipper. Standard Clip, for example, is almost a seventh of the price and has more features. Oh well, I guess thats how they justify the sales and $1 stuff by pricing it stratospherically!
$59 is the most I'm happy to spend on any plugin so dumping 30 indirectly on this is a no brainer. I'm also at the point where I dont need anymore plugins in my life, but I'm addicted to the stupid reality of gear craze so I keep collecting trophies and junk alike. Ive been meaning to grab the BX Limiter as well. I really do like the sound of it.
Sometimes I wonder if people way overcomplicate what a clipper's purpose is and end up believing all this magic fairy dust marketing and feel justified spending 150-200 on something that should only be designed to chop off peaks. You can achieve this yourself with a waveshaper, or a decently configurable distortion / instant compressor.
Nice alternative to Gold Clip. I have no idea why I decided to give it a try other than pure curiosity. Sometimes while moving quickly what you have just isn't scratching the itch. Looked over the presets and chose the one labeled "Warm"... Just what I needed to add some interest to the low end. It can hang with the Silver Bullet (N) in this specific case and both of them in tandem add something nice to an anemic low end. I cant say whether it's better than Gold Clip but it has far more uses in mastering situations imo. I'll have to sit with it over the weekend.
I am not really up to date with all the subscription models at PA right now but I signed up for the MIX&MASTER yearly subscription in January this year and this seems to be not added to that subscription, does anyone know why?
You pay a subscription, every month, 30$!
PLUS the 1 dollar (why? from PA)
Iv stopped this subscription because i have finally my brain free to look at every plugin that is out from major Software House, i do own my plugins and im selecting the best in use in various situation.
Stop to buy compulsive (is not for your case...maybe) is only one advise, my daw clipper is also enought

Just demo'd it. It's not my cup of tea. Really I'm not into any clippers that modify the frequency spectrum. The FET mode shifted the stereo mix towards a bright top end, and the Diode focused more on the midrange. That being said, the Diode mode is nice; it is certainly forward in a very complimentary way.
But as others have stated in this thread: it's a clipper. I think most of us (for mastering purposes) just want a neutral clipper that is as transparent as possible.
I thought I'd do a quick blind test if anyone wants to have a listen, of a stock drum and a stock bass loop. It's bx_clipper vs MCompressor, with its attack and release set to 0 with any custom curve I want.
The processed file will cycle through two bx_clipper settings;
A relatively sensible setting; -6db ceiling, DIODE mode, 1.0 Knee, 100% mix.
One to push the saturation; -6db ceiling, FET mode, 10.0 Knee, 150% overfold.
There's a control file with no clipping applied too.
I'm still a big fan of SiR Audio's StandardCLIP and, other than the auto ceiling feature (which is pretty cool), I don't see much here worth that price.
Clipping is clipping... until you adjust the knee or dig down into the sustain of source, take more than 0.5 ~ 1db of sharp transients. But yes. Other than that. Clipping is clipping. Unless again it is modeled clipping like the one in Gold Clip. Use delta listen in reaper and you can hear a distinct difference. If you are clipping a bunch of channels ever so modestly it matters which clipper you choose.
So yes. Clipping is clipping.
That said the price is how PA makes the sub attractive. If you like this one just wait. It will come down to earth.

What are the stat numbers for the processed files ? (besides the true peak which is assume is -6dB TP for both of them)
BTW both your sample RAW files (and the ones at PA) are distorted and cannot be regarded as reference for the true expected outcome of a Clipper (IMO).
