This article seems to suggest that the Faderport classic will work correctly with Cubase as there is a native mode programmed by Presonus. hmmm

Did the rep mention if this was this just for Cubase?
I seem to recall Logic has a setting for "touch selects track" or something.

I didn't inquire about any DAW other than Cubase.. but my guess is it's going to be a problem with Logic as well since logic also runs on MCU. Basically it looks like until presonus releases native drivers for your daw of choice it's not going to be an ideal user experience.

For Cubase users who want a single fader that follows your mouse selection it looks like our current options are:

1. Presonus Faderport Classic
2. Steinberg CC121

So I received my Berhinger X-Touch One despite websites claiming October/November time frame.

So first the bad:

1. The touch fader doesn't follow the mouse or vise-verse. You need to use the "Channel Select" buttons on the X-Touch to move between channels. And even this is flaky.. Fails with Studio One latest version, Cubase 9.5 Professional and Reaper. HUGE FAIL IMHO... Either I am doing something wrong or this unit needs a firmware update badly. BTW You can select the DAW using the controls and I've tried all kinds of different combinations including HUI.

2. The jog wheel is tight when using the finger depression to rotate. It's fine when using the outer circumference of the knob though. Given the choice of tight or loose, tight is better. She'll loosen up in good time .

3. Surprise! The user manual is useless! At least it isn't "Chinese English"...

Now the good:

1. Mechanical quality is super solid. The unit is heavy, the buttons are soft but nice touch to them. The encoder is a little sloppy side to side but very accurate and not jumping around. Display is nice and clear and just the overall look and feel of the unit shows quality especially when considering the $149.00 price point. This isn't your father's Berhinger, except for the fact that it doesn't work lol ! Some things never change I suppose :(

2. Motorized fader is silent and smooth. No play, no rough spots etc.

3. Comes with a bunch of Lexan overlays ala Mackie for various DAWs.

So, I haven't really used it much but am waiting for approval to post to the Berhinger forum with the fader problem. If it's WAD, it's going back because that's a deal killer for me.

Anyone else have one and maybe can tell me what I'm doing wrong here because I can't believe this is normal behavior. Or maybe it is?

The problem isn't with the X-Touch per se but with the MCU protocol which can only move in increments of 8.

That said, adopting this for a 1 channel fader is absurd IMO.

That's not good news at all. Even using the Channel buttons to navigate, the DAW doesn't highlight the current channel so I have to look at the little display on the Touch-One to figure out what channel I am currently on.

If this is normal behavior for the unit, it's going back because it actually makes working in my DAW more difficult.

Why do these company's release products that simply don't work. Don't they realise how much damage they do to themselves ? Or is it the "too big to fail" mentality ?

Just took delivery of the X-touch one and as stated the track select is just chaos. There is absolutely no communication between the daw and the fader regarding channel selec and visual feedback. It is impossible to navigate beyond 8 channels.

This will be going straight back on Monday, Behringer should be ashamed of themselves for realising this in its current state.

I finally received mine. Does anyone know how to set the encoder assignment (Logic)? Manual is useless.

I had high hopes for this controller. Using Studio One, it would seem the new FaderPort (or even the old one) would be preferred, but the FaderPort will not write CC midi data, which is main reason I want a controller. The X-Touch One does so, but if it's ultimately as clunky as it is starting to appear to be... maybe I'll punt and just the the X-Touch Compact.

I did not understand all the negativity about this thing prior the release, but will send it back on monday, too, having received it today for the very same reason. Mackie Control is a complete fail. I have a console one and juts wanted to use the X-Touch for the transport function, rec enable etc, and that is not possible this way. I tried to make an own template in Cubase but that way the LCD and al the button lights don't work...

Sure it's not a "real" fader and buttons but at least they work.

Trying to post on the behringer forum about the issues but all posts are moderated, and although I 100% am not trying to post anything false of offensive the moderators seem to be ignoring my posts without any reason why.

I guess they are trying to bury any negative news from potential customers.

I honestly can't believe this thing shipped in the current state. I understand being an early adopter will present issues but this is like buying a first year model car only to learn it won't go into reverse yet. I expected minor bugs that will be fixed with firmware updates and I'm good with that. This is unacceptable though.

The idea of a control surface is to cut down on mouse clicks and speed the work flow. This unit manages to do the opposite in that it actually impedes the work flow because you never know what track you are on. And it's really sad because the overall quality is amazingly good. I would give it a 9.9 out of 10 for quality of construction and it certainly doesn't look or feel like a $150.00 budget control surface.

However in it's current state, unless Berhinger responds, it's going back on Monday.

It’s really has knocked the little confidence I had about Behringer QC and their software.

I'd like to get one for a friend, but was wondering if the push buttons are capped in plastic are are they those atrocious spongy rubber squares that everybody uses (like that new presonus mentioned above)?

The transport buttons are hard plastic but all the other buttons are the rubber ones although they have a solid, not squishy feel to them. Overall I like the feel of the unit. Very solid.

Super bummed to read this. I was looking forward to getting this. If it doesn't follow the DAW track then it's totally useless.

In Samplitude you can edit the MCU settings in the hardware control panel. There's a setting where you can choose to "synchronize with active track". Well that's how it works on my Behringer X Touch. But whether it will work with the X Touch One in a similar way remains to be seen.

Guys IT IS possible that a firmware or software update will fix everything that's happening here when it's released. I'm not sure where everyone got their unit so fast, but when I go to any major retailer to buy the X-touch it's saying that it's weeks away from release. i'm not saying you shouldn't return it but there's a good possibility that since you got the unit so early that there's fixes on the way.

Mine came from Sweetwater. I pre-ordered it about a month ago, they told me October time frame and next thing I know it was sitting on my porch 2 days ago.

Of course it's possible a firmware update will solve the problem. The real question is why release the unit with such a serious flaw in the first place? In it's current state, the unit is basically a brick. I have a note out to Behringer asking if/when a firmware update can be expected as I am sure just about everyone else does as well.

I'll bet Behringer will update it very soon. There's no way they're that stupid to release it in this state if it's not working as intended.

Doubt it. Behringer don't, AFAIK, do software and instead rely on preexisting programs to manage their hardware. They don't have audio drivers and rely on ASIO4ALL and similarly they're adopting the MCU protocol for the X-Touch range.

It's a bit to late for that, they already have released it not working as intended.

Preordered mine from Sweetwater, it's on my desk now. Mine had a faulty power supply, so had to find a 9V one laying around to get mine to work then spent about 4 hours trying all the other avail Reaper MCU plugins out there, still no follow track, other than that one main selling feature the rest of everything works awesome.

I like it. ANd I'm keeping it. Build quality is very solid. Amazing, really, for 150 bucks. Track selection is ****, for sure. In Sonar (I know..) it will only select the first track in the group of 8. So if you want to select track 19 out of 19 total tracks, you better add 7 dummy tracks 20-26 after it. However, all the other functions, (record F1..F6) will operate on the track selected in the DAW. And, for me, the transport controls are worth it.

Also, tight jog wheel...if you grab the wheel and see-saw it a bit, it lifts up and turns mush easier.

It’s probably worth getting the Presonus Faderport even though it costs more because at least you know you’re paying for something that works.

Anyway what ever happen to the Frontier Alphatrack? That was even better than the Faderport. And They ever came out with an updated version.
