AIR Music Tech Announces the Release of AIR Soft Clipper

I'd like to encourage Air to put their resources into updates all their existing products to apple silicon native. And I'll not be purchasing new Air products until that is done. And the updates needs to be passed to the usual purchase channels not obscured on the website.

They are running a public beta for this, so a release should be pretty close.

Never had any problems with their software and will try this one for sure.

It's taken them 4 years to make native Apple Silicon versions of their old plugins available. Hopefully they've turned a corner, but it does make me think twice about buying their stuff.

When they say “that clipper only better” are they talking about fruity clipper?

The default preset is named "FeeLS Fruity", so there's no doubt about which clipper they're referring to.

Manual doesn’t work. Has anyone worked out if there’s a way to link the input and output so that the volume stays the same? Juggling two controls with a mouse is annoying.

So does it null with Gold clip or the fl clipper or what?

Would be a lot more helpful if the drive knob was in dB.

Shame the knobs don't support mouse wheel either (I'm on Mac).

Ok, I did the null testing and other testing. This is not even close to the same code as Fruity Soft Clipper and it also does not null at all at any setting. The wave shapes it generates are very different too (all 3 of them). So the marketing is BS. The default preset "FeeLS Fruity" is no closer to the Fruity Soft Clipper than literally any other clipper in existence. Their marketing of “that clipper, only better” suggests that perhaps they've not only cloned the Fruity Soft Clipper, but they've taken it to the next level. Nope, not the case at all. This clipper may be good, it may sound similar at some settings, it may even become your personal favorite clipper, but it is not in any way related to Fruity Soft Clipper specifically.

Disappointing marketing on this one...

Schwabe clipper are not cheap. But they are pretty and easy to use and sound great. Especially gold clip is sth special to me. I use it in every project. Also orange clip is very useful to me. Sorry to occupie this threat. Right now I can’t imagen that I need another clipper any time soon. (Have a few more in my folder)

I compared it the free Audec shape lite and it sounded exactly the same to me. And it has less options than that free plug in. The Audec Shape paid version would be a better purchase at the same price.
Unfortunately I have yet to make any purchases from this company, after trying a fair few demos.

What so special about the FL clipper that almost no one can recreate it?

Alot of bass heavy music get created in FL these days and FL have a special way to crunch your 808´s and kicks. Alot of the sound comes from the Clipper. The sound was always hard to recreate in other DAW´s. Im using PT for mixing and I can get similar results with Orange Clip.

It has been developed for MPCs. It is not competing with mastering grade clippers. It's nice and easy to use on individual tracks as a saturator, like in this video.

is there already a clipper plug in for standalone (mpc) ?

So what I read here does not encourage me to buy it.

Is it worth buying having it for the standalone functionality?

IMO the MPC compatibility is the only thing it’s got going for it. Otherwise, there are plenty of better clipper plugins around.

I think you are much better off using the single outs of your MPC and process with better quality tools externally.

I like their fx collection, but it also need a revamp (scalable UI) , I also like the older generation instruments. Strike is an excellent drum thing, Loom II is awesome. The rest are pretty good but they got caught up in between OS and processor iterations so that now they aren't all functional (I think). I have strike and hybrid working and boom, and several others and the AIR fx on apple silicon. I want the rest brought up to speed. Paid updates aren't out of the question here as I understand it takes some development to get there. The mian issue is they are taking years to get it done. Which means I move onto other tools.

I agree, I already assumed it is just worth if I am standalone and am in the need of a soft clipper.

I think the real question is why would anyone want to recreate it?

There are so many equal or better options for free.

I think you have misunderstood ... well everything. If this is your starting point you shouldn´t use no plugins at all cause the signal is always cleaner without them. They all create aliasing, transient blurring, phase shifts, harmonic distortion, etc.

So it´s all about what´s your goal for a certain channel? And the answer often is a plugin that´s worse than the competition in every technical way but still it´s perfect for your song.
