i'm thinking of selling my powercore system

i have a powercore firewire with the original plugs as well as:

nonlin reverb
vss3
intonator


i'm going back and forth on selling it, because the NonLin and VSS3 are so amazing... but i'm also worried of the future compatibility.

but there's still a place for the powercore on a second computer or one that isn't upgraded too often... and if anyone is interested PM me..

I noticed that the stability of my virus powercore went up 10 fold when i moved to PC. Not saying its the OS, it could easily be the card is happier with my new hardware but I have noticed its rock solid for me on x64 win7 + cubase 6

ive seen all sort of prices with the poco.

some firewire units for $200!!!!

and poco 6000 for 1k.

not bad.

still, undecided. would like a better home mastering system plugin. as well as cool new plugs like vss3/md3 and virus. (have the TI already so no biggie)

bad part is that poco in lion is 32 bit. i was trying to get rid of the bit bridge.

UAD would be nice too.. but its too pricey imo. which is what makes the poco so attractive,.. since its a doom tech, the price is lower.

if its works with lion, then there is at least 3 years you can have use for. right?

I have a PoCo compact and I love that thing. I haven't bought any of the other higher end plugins, but MegaReverb alone makes it worth while for me. It is the best plate/room/whatever you like reverb I have ever used. I have yet to demo the others.

I used to use the Lexicon PCM stuff and I tried a few others as well as Real Verb Pro from the UAD-2 card at the studio, but the the MegaReverb is just beautiful. I also used impulse responses, but not my thing. I can run 3 or 4 of those MegaReverb on one chip. So power really isn't a problem.

The reason I bought it was because I needed the DSP since reverbs were killing my old machine.

So you threw in your opinion that Powecore is gimmicky just because of an "impression" you have? Powercore had/has some of the best ITB reverbs in VSS3, DVR2, NonLin2, and the best ITB mastering tools in MD3 and Brickwall Limiter, and pretty much kick started the high end ITB compression craze with CL1B. All are still at least as good as and in some cases much better than the UAD and Waves equivalents.

or the powercore 6000 for about $1000 which is a great price. the price of the MD# alone is about $800. and the vss3 $400 and so on.
so 1k for all, its good deal. yet again.. for a dying tech...

I've just recently got out of Powercore whilst I could still make some money back on it but there are some plugs I will definitely miss.

Classicverb and MD3 were used every day here.

md3 seems a very high end plugin worth having for a while right?

Just did a mix yesterday and I used the Dynamic EQ and the MegaReverb. It was great!!!

I really like my Power Core. Just buy the damn thing! The Brickwall limiter alone is worth it! I love how it works and is very intuitive. I wish I could buy a 6000, but that's out of my current budget, but I am looking at getting another firewire

I picked up a Powercore Firewire on ebay last year that came with the Virus, VSS4, NonLin2, DVR2 for $500. Killer deal.

If you are a PowerCore Firewire user and has issues I would buy a second hand Powercore PCIe card, transfer all licenses and sell the Firewire unit. Latest 4.4 beta+"Streaming Registry fix" that TC put out works very well with PCIe cards.

Many DAWs has Bit-Bridge software that works great or you can use jBridge.

i thought powercore plugins are already 64 bit (mac AND PC)

The drivers only. You need some kind of 'bridge' for the plug-ins in 64 bit hosts.

Sorry to wake up an old thread, but how does the TC powercore look today?

I'm on windows 7 64bit, using pro tools and reaper as my daws. will TC Powercore Firewire bring anything cool to my setup or is it just alot of bugs?

Best reverbs out without a pro tools hd setup. I just bought another pci mk2 to use with my FireWire-Compact.

Also, the chorus delay is amazing!

They just released a new release candidate driver that should be ready in a few months. So the driver development is still green, just no new plugins and/or hardware.

i think for windows youll have better luck

apple upgrades OS like every 3 months! (well mountain snow lion kitty is coming out soon. )

not sure if poco will be compatible with the new upcoming cat.

I am thinking of picking up a poco just for the limiter and reverbs. I am still not happy with itb limiting I've tried. I've yet to try sonnox and just started demoing elephant but I wan't something really clean.

Also taking the strain of the cpu would help because I have lots of synths going. If it works on windows 7 I'll be happy for quite some time.

Just sold my PoCo with MD3 / Limiter, Classicverb, etc and gone over to Sonnex Limiter and Flux Alchemist, I think the only difference for me is ease of use; where PoCo stuff wins.

The only limiter that I heard that was as transparent and able to maximize with as few artifacts and ease of use as the PoCo Brickwall is the fabfilter pro L on transparent mode... It's a beautiful beautiful limiter.

Alright alright, after putting this one off for months on end I am finally going to give it a demo. The interface just looks awful to me, so grey and dull, I don't like any of their interfaces that much.

But will try it out for sure. Its the sound that counts.

Edit - The demo file is 3.3mb. That is how it should be! I don't want a 500mb file for a compressor demo please.

I sold my poco a few years ago and no interest in getting back into it (no spare FW port for a start), however it had some fantastic plugs. Particularly MD3 and VSS3 which are awesome.

if you don't already have a heap of native plugs you could do worse than getting a second hand poco and grabbing some of the better plugs.

Yes, bought Pro-L. Really impressive limiter.

I've frozen my mix rig as a 32bit rig so I can keep my Powercore's going indefinitely going forward. I'll build a separate 64 bit composing rig.

I cannot imagine mixing and mastering without the Powercore plugins.

The TC Brickwall limiter has no rivals IMHO. If you want completely transparent
GR of about 2-3dB nothing comes close to the TC Brickwall for leaving the transients in tact especially the Kick and low end stuff, still and always will be an essential and amazing bit of software.

Other TC essentials for mixing are,

Dynamic EQ - brilliant for mixing vocals and taming synths
All the TC reverbs esp the NonLin2
The VSS3 is my go to for piano reverb.
CL1B (sounds better on the PoCo than the native version .... it really does)

MD3 EQ is up there with RED and BLUE EQ for Mastering.

I also love the Virus, amazing synth although that's an add on 3rd party plugin.

TC Powercore is still essential to my mixes and productions.

I as well will be running my two pice powercores as long as possible. So long as Logic has a bridge function and or VEP (Vienna ensemble pro) is available, I see/hear no reason to stop using the great sounding powercore plugins.

The CL1-b is the exact same plugin in the PoCo as the native except the gain is hotter on the PoCo. Softube said it themselves. Honestly, it's moot to discuss it since I don't like the CL1-b. But what I do like is that I just picked up a pci mk2 and a unplugged for about 240 euro. I really like TC plugins. The chorus delay kill it and it's so easy to use, also the classic verb is really cool.

Any speculations TC's own Powercore plugins go native?
