ALL my Waves VST plugins. If any of you are like me, our lives have been sucked into the corporate subscription model. Plugins? How about taking a long look at the subscription model, and how we ALL got here.

We fight back by canceling our subscriptions. This may not be possible for some types of services. But alternatives (often better-sounding alternatives) exist for almost every music plugin subscription offering I am aware of.

Although individual Roland Cloud plugins are pricey for what you get, buying Lifetime Keys is almost always a better deal over the long term. Besides, other than the D50 and maybe the JD800, what Roland Cloud plugin can't be replaced by something else for less money?

And that's just Roland Cloud. Honestly, how many UVI sample-based synthesizer libraries for Falcon do you really need by subscribing to "UVI SonicPass"? I would argue zero as they aren't that good. (I say this is someone who foolishly purchased several of them and regretted each purchase.)

I don't follow the subscription offerings from Slate Digital mainly because I own a few of their "marque" plugins that I bought on sale and which I never use. So signing up for Slate's "Complete Access Bundle" would be throwing good money after bad – in perpetuity! Honestly, now that the Universal Audio plugins go on sale routinely for very reasonable prices, why would anyone need a Slate Digital subscription?

If we collectively take our business elsewhere, these rent-seeking subscription profiteers will get the message that they need to offer one-time purchases at affordable prices or risk going out of business. Consider it an act of civil disobedience.

FM8 was, in my opinion, a big step backwards in terms of usability.
I normally create the patch in FM7 and then import it into FM8 for the sound quality.
But sometimes FM7 sounds “better”, in the mix, than FM8...

That is just placebo. FM7 patches imported in FM8 sound identical (barring using the Analog parameter which randomly detunes stuff).

I also disagree about usability. FM8 is faster to use overall.

Some of us simply prefer(ed) the look of FM7 and this is enough to have better experience. FM8 looks bland and clinical like a hospital room. I'm not using it just because I dislike the GUI.

It's possible some unnamed music company didn't like how close the look of the fm7 UI was to their own design. Nothing but time, money and skills stops the true aficionado from getting or building a hardware controller with that original look. I program the FM8 from my Push, using handmade mappings, so never look at the UI really.

Ah, I forgot to mention that FM7's randomization system is amazing and very useful when creating sub-patches.
FM8 has fallen quite behind in this respect.
