I work mainly in pro tools studio on a Mac Studio. I primarily use this rig for mixing and mastering. My current interface is a multi Apollo setup using an x16 and x8.

I’ve made some significant upgrades to my studio over the past year in the form of monitoring and room treatment, and am now revisiting my conversion. The uad converters are decent, no complaints, but I am thinking about upgrading to something even better and more transparent.

Ideally, I would like an all in one solution with thunderbolt connectivity, though I’m open to other options. I need between 24-32 io, and do not need any built in preamps.

Would something like an Apogee Symphony or Lynx Aurora N be a good choice? This is my first foray into high quality conversion, so I’m a bit unsure what to look at. Other suggestions welcome. I want something that plays nice with Macs, is stable, and maybe somewhat future proof (at least 5-10 years). I like the apogee and Lynx stuff because it seems like the modules are upgradable and expandable,

If it's the gearlust speaking you can't go wrong with either. But frankly there's no need to switch out a working system for subjectively better conversion.

I haven't used a symphony, but have used apogee. Now use multi-Apollo setup like you. In my experience driver support has been better on the Apollos. I did like the raw sound of the Apogee, but the Apollo dsp outweighs it for me in the end. I also did some testing while I had both and I could get the Apollo to sound close enough to the Apogee that I couldn't tell them apart when I added some eq - I think I used izotope match eq to do that. So, in my instance I think they were just voiced slightly different - not reall a better worse situation. That was an apogee element though.
