so i need more i/o (for now at least 10 line-ins, 8 mic pres), and decided i would stick with RME. initially i was looking at a Digiface USB.

BUT, there are lots of used multiface IIs, fireface 800s out there. i have a firewire card installed already.

besides the risk of buying used online, is this a bad idea? for example, a fireface 800 has 8 line ins, 4 pres...add another 8-channel preamp, and im gold for under a grand with the stability of RME drivers and performance.

im on windows 10, on a custom built PC with a firewire 400/800 card i installed recently.

Assuming you find a good seller, there’s nothing wrong with buying a used rme anything!!

thanks for chiming in, yeah. it's a little nerve-racking buying used but i think it could be worth it if i find a good seller.

RME 800s are known for popping power supplies occasionally. Fixed on the 802s. The PS board can be replaced for about $200.
