While searching for solutions I came up with this post.
I just purchased new the Neumann MT48 yesterday and already have issues. And I am pissed off, as I paid near 2000€ for it here in Europe.
The thing is that I am using a relative old but powerful PC with a Xeon Intel chip, a Nvidia graphics card, NVme storage and plenty RAM, absolutely capable of handeling most projects I do (I was using temporarily a Behringer Air XR 18 as a interface).
The PC is new to me, as I bought it few weeks ago, but was running smoothly with Reaper. It runs on Windows 10 (and cannot upgrade to Windows 11 as it states).
The thing is that yesterday, after plugging the Neumann MT48 and installing the drivers (I already had the Asio4all drivers installed as they were mandatory to use with the Behringer), all the audio I was trying to playback from the PC, whether it be YouTube videos/music or my guitars recorded in Reaper, had random pops and crackles all the time, no matter what I did.
I went through the Neumann website, uninstalled everything, reinstalled all again (even the newest Asio4all driver), and pops and crackles again. I went through the Neumann's guide to configure Reaper specifically, and even did all the recomendations to optimize my PC as their website stated. And got nothing out of it but the same pops and crackles as before.
I just tried disconnecting the USB wifi port, put the thing on plane mode, disabled Realtek, connected the MT48 to another USB port (even tried both 2.0 and 3.0), but still clearly audible pops and crackles even when playing back a damn YouTube video.
Tried with my other computer, a Windows 11 Intel (that I was using previously as my main one) and as it appeared (cause I did not try to reproduce a whole album, as I did not had the mood nor the time to do so), it did smoothly well: no pops, no crackles within or outside Reaper. Even with the famous usb-c to usb-a cable.
But back to my main PC for music, it still does it and as I want the PC and interface for recording professional guitars, I cannot work with it.
This week, as my schedule allows me, I'll register the product and try to get in touch with the Neumann support, altough I am a bit hopeless tbh...
I am no tech savy guy by any means, but cmon, paying for a 2k interface I think (imho) I shouldnt be troubleshooting like that on day 1.
I am hopeless btw as it appears that it does not go well specifically with my main PC that has Windows 10 (altough the Neumann's website states that it's compatible with such OS).
Well, I just wanted to share my experience, and if anyone has any idea, may it be welcome.
Cheers,
