Does anyone know if the AMS RMX16 reverb plugin from Universal Audio works with non-UAD audio interfaces?
I heard that UAD have re-made several of their plugins to work with any audio interface (not just the Universal Audio ones), but there's no mention of this (or any tech specs for that matter) on the AMS RMX16 plugin page (see link above).

I'm looking for that 80s "nonlin" gated reverb for 80s r&b/Hip Hop/Electro-funk, and it has to be a AU format plugin which works on a Mac running Logic Pro X. I assume the above plugin is the most authentic one available.

Valhalla Vintage Verb has Nonlin reverb also amongst others - it was for sure one of the reason I purchased it.

Reverberate 3 plus Inhalt Townhouse AMS.

I actually already have the Waves H-Reverb hybrid plugin which contains a few nonlin presets, but assuming the AMS plugin is "the real deal" I wanted to ask about it.

Opinions on how the Valhalla Vintage Verb and Reverberate 3/Townhouse AMS Impulse Response library compare to the H-Reverb for this sort of 80s sound?

Oh, upon further research I found out that the Universal Audio plugins I had heard about which don't rely on UAD hardware is the UAD Spark plugin collection subscription service and only contain certain UAD plugins, and not the AMS RMX16.
So the bottom line (as far as I know) is that for the real thing you need UAD hardware for the plugin, the AMS/Neve RMX16 500 series hardware reissue or a vintage original RMX16 rack unit. None of these are realistic options for me.

Heard positive things about the Wave H series plugins, but don't have them.

If you're looking specifically for the AMS nonlinear, the cheapest best option is probably Reverberate 3 (when on sale) + the Inhalt IRs. If you don't need or want that very specific sound, then there's other options.

R3+Inhalt should prob cost about $130 when R3 is on sale, $150 when not (unless you have loyalty discounts). Plus R3 comes with a Bricasti and other IRs.

This contains a SHARC assembly running the UAD-2 code.

Interesting indeed, but pricey (US$ 200) according to its web page.

Getting back to the Townhouse AMS Impulse Response (IR) library files.... I read somewhere that compared to most "regular" reverb plugins, those that use IR files demand a lot more CPU power. Is this true? Not sure if this would be an issue or not with my not-quite-up-to-date computer hardware but surely something to keep in mind.
Also, would that AMS IR-library sound similarly good on any IR-capable reverb plugin, or does the Liquidsonics Reverberate 3 excel in terms of audio quality or something else? Judging from the screenshots on the Liquidsonics website it sure looks good though!

You can absolutely use the Inhalt IRs in any IR reverb plugin and then add Reverberate 3 at a later date.

Reverberate 3 is just one of the best (possibly the best) IR reverb plugins. It has a lot of great modulation options to breathe life and movement into static IRs. And, again, it comes with several additional IR reverbs: Bricasti M7, Lexicon 224XL, Lexicon 480, and Lexicon PCM 91.

I see that my DAW (Logic Pro X) actually comes with a reverb that takes IR files, so I need look no further -at least for starters.

Those IRs with Reverberate 3 are from some nice reverb units. I might not need the Lexicon 480L though as just I bought Relab XL480 essentials for US$ 29 (the deal is still on one more day or so at Audioplugin deals). Other plugin sites have it for $35, so I think this is the cheapest.

I don't know much about the differences in all these reverb units, but being on the lookout for anything that gives that typical 80s sound I figured this would do some of it, plus I love the user interface! I know that shouldn't be a reason to get a plugin, but I figure if it makes it more enjoyable to use I'll actually use it more and probably take more advantage of its features

The ones with Reveberate3 are among the most popular, well-know hardware reverbs of all-time to date. So many albums and soundtracks use(d) them. Plus they're using some proprietary extensions/methods to make them sound even better.

If you want smaller bundles of good IRs, check out PastToFuture IRs. They might have an AMS, as well, for less than the Inhalt, but they also aren't as good or as extensively captured.

Reverberate3 is weII worth the cash, I absoIuteIy Iove it not onIy for reverbs but often now aIso eq and compressor and other gear boxtone IR's. Check out PastToFutureReverbs and their massive cataIogue of IRs.

But for RMX16 the InhaIt is king. Stick em in Space Designer for now, wiII sound great. IR pIugins apart from features, do make the IRs sound different in sIight ways though and R3 is greatest for both imo. And very efficient, I Iitter the pIace with instances.

I own the UAD plug-in and still use the Inhalt IRs. They sound like the records I love that heavily featured the hardware. The plug-in is really great, too, but the impulses are cheap and sound amazing!

I'm the OP and noticed that today (black Friday) Reverberate3 is on sale for US$ 49 (half price) and the Inhalt Townhouse AMS RMX-16 Impulse Response library is at US$ 39.99 (usual price US$ 49.99 if I recall correctly), so I'm wondering if I should go for it or not.

The AMS RMX-16 IR library is a no brainer, so I'm buying that since I want that "nonlin" sound and I don't know of anything that will replicate that specific sound unless you go out and get the real thing (vintage or reissue) or the UAD plugin (if you have a UAD audio interface, which I don't).

As for Reverberate3: I didn't quite understand what makes it different from other (IR-file based) reverb plugins, and what makes it worth getting when you already have something that takes IR-files (like "Space Designer" which comes with Logic Pro X). Can someone please explain what kind of differences I will notice, and are these just "geeky" differences noticeable for studio professionals and not something a hobbyist musician such as myself would notice or features to care about?
And how about CPU usage (on a Mac)?
