One does not simply buy UAD plugins for more than $8... wisdom that has been lost in time.

I was thinking about this the other day. Conclusion I came to was:

Do I really need any of it, given that I have so much already that covers this territory? No.

Is my work (as an amateur composer for fun) at a level that the increase in quality over what I already have would be noticeable? No

Given that new plugins will not be added to this bundle, if I spend this much now, are UA likely to successfully wring large amounts of extra money out of me on more than one occasion as they add new native plugins, to satisfy a rather pointless perfectionist ideal to keep my native UAD collection complete? Yes

Will the total price of their complete bundle (proportionally) come down over time as more of their catalogue becomes available? Yes

Will the native equivalent of the Ultimate bundle one day be offered on sale for the same price the DSP-dongled version was last year ($999) if not less? Yes

Would I be crazy to buy something in the vicinity of 1/4 to 1/3rd of the contents of the full Ultimate bundle, for 2/3rds the price? Yes

Do I actually have $650 USD sitting around to blow on this, with nothing better I could spend it on, given the above? No

Is it possible that once I've spent $650 on other plugins in the next couple of months I could come to regret this decision? Yes

Will I get another chance to buy a similar bundle from UAD with similar contents at a similar price? Absolutely

I picked up Wow Control from the Goodhertz sale. Tupe and Wow Control owners will get the new Wow Tupe plugin for free sometime this year. Wow Control was on my wishlist but knowing the new plugin was coming pushed me over the edge. DAMN YOU GHZ!!!

Yep. I have Spread also. Got it as a freebie which was nice. I agree it is useful to widen a mix and don’t mean to take away from DJSwivel. I just have so many other stereo imaging plugins already for that (Nugen, BX, iZo, Boz, UAD, PSP, Voxengo, and the list goes on).

Speaking of freebies, saw some interesting ones on this list. The first one on the list is even rent to own for some popular VSTs (??). Haven’t tried it. Ample Sound guitar and bass are really nice sounding and also like the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Tools Layers. Hear good things about Dexed but haven’t tried yet.

A reiteration of said wisdom will undoubtedly resurface in the very near future on the 'Who Uses Universal Audio?' thread (to which I have subscribed). Our learned friend has already posted multiple times in the last 2 pages of the thread.

As an Apogee Symphony Desktop user, I am yet to make my first UAD native plugin purchase. However, I have already gleaned some important information with regards to buying a bundle Vs individual plugin purchases - thanks mark123.

Apparently rewards vouchers are issued on a 'per sale' basis & Mark advised on picking up plugins separately when they are on sale, in order to maximise savings with loyalty vouchers.

I can't really afford the UAD Diamond Bundle before the current sale stops, but I very much have my eye on it if only for the Motown stuff.
What's the general opinion on whether this will be on sale again at this price (or even lower) in the future or is this likely to be the best ever deal?

Many here already know and hopefully, I wasn’t misleading there about UAD purchases. There is savings to be had buying bundles on sale also (Custom Bundles, Neve Complete Bundle, Marshall Legends Bundle, Ultimate Bundle, etc). I meant that if wanting to buy say two or three individual plugins in a sale, though, it has been best to buy those one at a time to get a coupon after each purchase. If buying all three in one buy, then only one coupon shows up after. .

I think you are saying that but wanted to be sure so as not to mislead. I suggest being careful if one owns some plugins in a bundle already. Often the “offer” price deal UAD gives in such cases is more than buying the needed plugins separately on sale. Never understood why they do that in contrast to other vendors that offer additional savings in such cases.

I have it earmarked for BF. I reckon the same if not a little bit more off? Do the bundles disappear tho? I think they are perpetual just the 30% off goes away AFAIK.

Also worth waiting to see how the build your own bundles work out during summer as was already mentioned; I definitely don't need it all and if I can get 3 or 4 that I really want for a good price I'll jump in then.

When I tested a few of the native UA plugs they all ran very well with little cpu%, responsive GUIs and great sounding results. Am fan.

Based on history, it will more than likely be on sale again in the future. It may have more plugins and at a higher price accordingly…or it may be the same/less. It’s a toss up. However, speaking for myself, I would take the gamble rather than over-extend now…and wait until June or the Holiday sales in November / December if able. More UADx should be added at a somewhat similar price then or near the same ballpark.

Thanks for the clarification. Due to not owning any UAD hardware, I never looked into the plugins until they were recently made available as native. I'm also currently on a temporarily self imposed plugin purchase ban (although I couldn't resist picking up Cluster Delay for £29). It means that I haven't really looked into the pricing as yet, but thanks again for the info & clearing up any misunderstanding on my part.

Great plugs but as you said alot of it is redundant and the same reason I'd pass. Now if you were new to plugs it might make alot more sense but at this point that's alot of cash for stuff you'll only use half of at best. Well...that was my best effort but in the end you'll make the right decision for you.

If I was going to buy a Waves plug-in it would be that one. Not saying I will, but not saying I won’t either.

Anyone know how much of the Eventide Clockworks bundle you need to have to get the price below $150 to upgrade from Eventide? Asking for a friend…..

well, when i just had the omnipressor it was $149... and when i got the h949 a few days back, it went down to $119.

so if i was gonna buy the bundle, it would have been 10 bones cheaper to buy it at $149... but i'm stoked with just the 949 and op, which i got for 20 bones in their last sale.

Dumped some money into credits and played around for about an hour...that API 5500 EQ is something. The free one is cool too..I have a 303 loop in current project and ran it through every processor...drove it hard too.

1176, LA2A, Distressor, Silver Bullet, Chandler compressor, and the Manley Vari-mu...what's fascinating about these analog units is even when they are clipping a lot...it still sounds good.

The Kush Omega N does a pretty solid emulation of this effect...I played around with A/B-ing. That's a nice $19 plug-in.

One sad note...no ITB eq will sound like that analog API....it's $2500+ for a reason.

I've got H910, SP2016 and Omnipressor and it's $119 for me which isn't really much discount over buying the remaining plugins separately.

Kind of regret not buying Instant Phaser and Flanger when they were $14.50 each but that was a one off glitch that's unlikely to happen again. I chose Micropitch and Blackhole over those only to try to stay on budget a bit but should've just snatched them up as they're both very nice and unique plugins. Also considered the Tricerachorus you mentioned before.

It's over now - it was 30% off for Pi day from 3/14 to 3/17. I missed it too.

I missed that glitch. But $24ish each is still a good price now (jrr). I’m waiting on a future sale for the harmonizers. But I have a couple plugins higher on the list.

Actually the API 2500 is the one UAD plugin, along with the Pultec, that is reported to be indistinguishable from the hardware.

Anyone use SPL Hawkeye for their monitoring ?

It looks nice, a lot of information in one place, which I like, but how does it compare to say Supervision which is in Cubase.

I really appreciate everybody’s input. Thank you thank you for taking the time to respond and for your thoughtful responses I am going to wait until Black Friday and see what goes on. I’m going to make do with the plug-ins I have.

I am very lucky to have a huge library of plugins - that sounds great…
