Yes the PEG is snappy enough, but I want an ADSR not just an AD, so I can go from stabs to longer sustained notes. maybe the 281 will do it. Not sure yet. That attenumix looks good. Passive though...
not sure if you tried them or not, but if you're coming from vintage synth background, you will love the fcuk x-env. they are fantastic as classic snappy ADSR. they get that rolandish twannng. unless you need cv control this is the one.
i use a pair for classic ADSR duties, where i want to play sustained notes, or for some sequences where i want the shape and response of a vintage mono.
maths is for snappy in a different way - its shape is almost "acoustic" sounding. perfect for drums & perc, or emulating a stringed/picked instrument. just by routing one of its channels to a expo fm input of a tricore like 258J, a devastating kick drum appears. cv control of both attack and release. with some self patching its possible to skew slopes beyond the ones offered by the lin/log/exp pot. including an external vca in this, you can even have cv over slope shape as well. tho i never needed that.
toppo 281 is 2ch AR, not ADSR. compared to maths, its a function gen only, whereas latter is also a dual universal slew generators. it has inputs for slew processing. also, maths attenuverters are DC sources/offsets, which came useful many times.
