would it be a good synthesizer for hip hop?

Anything can be a good synth for hip hop. I wouldn't recommend 0-Coast if this is your first piece of hardware, though.

Has anybody successfully updated their 0-coast to 1.6.8?
I'm just reading through the instructions here and they might as well be in hieroglyphics.

If it plays nicely and you don’t really need the latest firmware don’t bother. It took me several attempts plus re calibration to get it working. I might be fooling myself but i think I preferred it before

I like the look of the new 0-ctrl. That's why the 0-coast is out of the cupboard.

Yeah, I just read the instructions and it is the most convoluted update procedure I have ever seen. There is no way I am updating since I'll have to jump through extra hoops since my serial number is under 0070... and my 0-Coast is working perfectly fine for my needs.

If the O-CRTL is sending a sequence to the 0-Coast and a midi keyboard is connected to the 0-Coast and a key is pressed, what happens?

I'd get the 0-Coast and something else to go with it. Two 0-Coasts would just be redundant as they're pretty comparable voices on their own. Maybe match it with a Neutron or a Pro-1?

Why not a Pittsburgh modular SV1? The blackbox. I think they've stopped producing them but you can still find the new about. I don't think the Neutron voltage is eurorack standard.

No one seems to be stocking them in the UK but I guess I can order direct. As soon as I'm moved house in a few weeks, this is the 1st thing I'm buying.

Resurrecting this thread which covers a lot of ground on the 0-coast - the more I learn about Buchla and Serge, the more I see the very satisfying similarities with this little box. However I have the tendency to rarely use the Overtone/Multiply section, which I find horribly nasal sounding. I suppose it's me who's using it the wrong way though, are there some powerful sweet spots hidden in there? And how would you compare it to other wavefolders on the market?

as someone who is scared of the modular world, could I use the O Coast as a nice little 'expander' for something like a Dreadbox Erebus?

Funny that you are talking about the Erebus and 0-coast as I actually traded my Erebus v3 for the 0-Coast just a couple of days ago!

I think that the 0-Coast can nicely act as an expander with any semi-modular (or modular) instrument. I've quickly tried it with my Matriarch and did come up with some interesting musical & more experimental sounds with this combo.

By the way here is the first jam I came up with, using the 0-Coast as only synth (multi-tracked though ).

I have a couple of nice analog boxes and can easily say that the 0-Coast sound quite different compared to the others. So I think that it's a nice piece of gear to have in the studio

Make Noise O Coast bug? MIDI B CV channel filtering


I have tried searches for this and come up short. Has anyone else noticed that the MIDI B CV, when set to Mod Wheel, responds to ANY channel regardless of what the MIDI B is set to?

IOW, I have my O Coast set to MIDI channel 4. If I set the MIDI B CV to Mod Wheel, it responds to ANY MIDI channel. If I set MIDI B CV to "Note", it ONLY responds to Ch 4 (as it should). Same thing for MIDI B GATE: If set to "Mod Wheel > 50%" it responds to ALL channels. If set otherwise, it only responds to Ch 4 (in my case).

Using the same Mod Wheel with four different synths (Ch 1-4), it's a pain, 'cuz I have to dedicate an Arduino UNO and MIDI shield, to filter my data stream going to the O Coast, for channel 4.

That make sense? Anyone have a workaround?

The dynamic gate output of 0 Cntrl into exp fm on a resonant filter is my favourite find since I started modular.

I love my Crea8Audio West Pest, but I really want the Make Noise 0 Coast. Won’t be cheap for me, but won’t be impossible either.

is anyone using the 0-coast with a powerbank? Looked everywhere on the internet and most people were having issues. (Ripcord/Birdcords don't work in most of the cases) Thanks!

Only thing that sucks is that even though it's the perfect size to fit into a Eurorack case, it doesn't have Eurorack power on it, and the power jack is at a weird angle. My solution ended up being to snake the 0 Coast power through the rack, and the module is situated next one that's got a large gap between the panel and the circuitry (thank god for tubes, amirite?) so that the power cord is able to sit comfortably between the modules.

Also for what it's worth, I have both and I kinda prefer the West Pest. It's more limited, but I love its core sound. The 0 Coast sounds kind of soft and polite by comparison.
