Gigi ...i don't feel like doing so , the acoustic pressure in those is really important ....they're as loud as the opal with less volume (enclosure) ...this energy gotta go out or the boomer movement and smoothness gonna be biased ...

Gotta call a friend's friend acoustician ....when i use the sub it cuts this problem but i don't like the mids with it ...strange cause it's supposed to enhance them ....i really think those need minimum sollictation to produce their sound (or maybe the break is fisnihed yet and the mids will take place better) ....

i'll keep you informed ..if you guyz want but i feel like i have poluated this thread ...sorry bout that partners

Still in breaking period ...for the sound ....one of the best monitors i heard and it's still changing .....

for the issue , they handle it .....i wait and see , for now i have fun with those +sub ....they're unforgiving ...i thought in some track the medium suck but in fact the mixer scooped the voices like crazy to make room for the kcik and to not fight so the voice is really high mid / treble ....so in fact weird or bad mixed are exposed like "private life during USA elections " lol ....in our face !!

Yes. It's known issue. P11 has common stuff. You can return speaker and get Unity Rock mk2 which are closed so no vent noise.

I am very very happy you like the sound. It is extremely different speaker then old Adam. And something very incomparable to anything I heard. But some it would suit.. some it would bother. It helps me a lot now however.

I recommend you not to get S3X-H because its A/B amplified. Bit digital sounding speaker. But I like how they look tho.. Fabulous.

You can get S3X-V, but many agree S2X are better. I do agree S1X are better then S2X.. but it doesn't mean anyone would be happy with low-end and power. But they are a damn fast... very fast.

I think S2X is for you. If you love them.. keep them. If you think its not it.. get something else.

Try mix last project with s2x and compare to p11 mixes on average speakers.. it would show you your upgrade.

i just re open a premix i'm doing for an unrealeashed C murder track ...

Cmurder voice is very medium , limit to muddy , as i started to scult it i felt the voice going up in the stereo field , i also kept the kick as initial versus compressed and eq'ed : bingo

i then had some precussions that were a little to snappy (and bright) i filtered them to make them go lower to make room for C , then a snare coming frequently (like the "move bicth get out the way " from ludacris) was fighting with C , isntead of eq or put it off center or lower , i used the H delay to make those ala Dimension D and spread but fat and still a little present in center but i could then lower the whole thing and still had tha groove ...had to bosst percussions in the lows to blend with the 808 comong every bars (iw ould have never done that) but i done it with confidence....elelments are so isolated in those monitors that your clearly see what to do and most important when to stop !!!

for the vent noise , i reead that Ariel was using it as a warning for the kick being to high ...this might be fun as i experienced the same ...

i don't know about the S1x but the imaging you have with those is wiked .. so no joke , that good mix sound ok , bad mixes sounds horrible (i have some lol and you clearly hear the difrrence of ingeener and treatment like crazy /.....one song i say to myself , wtf those monitors lacks medium (judging on the voice) (bitch don't kill my vibe - kendrick lamar) and then i put another track and everything is straight and beautyfull (swimming pool kendrickk lamar ) or (usher , climax and all )

you really clearly hear the "colors" of mixes/mastering ....

testing because of you guyz the S7R tomorow ...just to be sure ...so far i'm sure the rock are great but i will have to use a sub anyway so why not use it for the s2x !

Sometime i find the mix to harsh (rick ross trap thing ) and so i'm about to say theyre"bling bling" but then i test on my beyer and same harshness
whith those monirors , to sum up , you will not validate any major label release mix , sometime i trust my ears , and some mixes just sound terrible sometime !! and s2x say it and spit it to your face lol !!! not smoothly a la psi !!!

To break-in your speakers, it is advisable to feed them with music signals of a broad frequency spectrum and different volumes for a certain period of time:
Up to one week for a 'normal' burn-in.
Up to four weeks for a reliable long-term consistency.

Thank you for the details. Your S2X have the new optimized base-reflex ports. Due to its construction you will be able to cause a port noise with high levels around 50Hz. But that’s by design and should not disturb noticeable in a normal production environment. Your description and your video shows the monitors producing a loud noise. So maybe there is used a defective port tube. But it’s highly unlikely that this should be happen in both of your monitors. Do you have the chance to go do a dealer close to you – just to compare another pair of S2X and possibly the S3X to yours? If you finally find the S2X not suitable for your kind of music and working combined with the Sub8 is not what you like to do – maybe they are not the right choice. In that case the only thing you can do is to give them back to your dealer.

Karloff : no , no psi testing as the only option i can afford are the 21mor 17 that will need the sub , so in fact using as sub for using a sub , why chaniging as those works wonder with the sub 8 (gain at 10 oclock witch)...

A 1300€ monitor should not rattling with this situations. After my krk expose pair are dead for sure, I'm using my second reference krk v6s2 and this morning when listening to Gucci Mane's Trap Back 2 I noticed some serious rattling in song 5, but I have called a friend to check this in his adams s2.5 and he have told me that this song have a serious subbass and the cone gone crazy but did not rattled ... check this in the s2x and if still rattling... can we associate this to the speaker size? It's weird but could be a posibility

not rattling at all on full songs i'm telling you tat when you solo the sub alone at high spl , if i bring back other instrument s: too mcuh high spl !!! so i have to lower it immediatly ...


Ask you're friend to do this : take a track his mixes , high spl (like 90 db ) and then solo the 808 (or insert an 808 at this level) ....and check

on full track at high spl (mixed track) : nothing or barrelly noticeable (i have to make those thing loud ) so it's defeintily hapenning also with boomy untreated kick ..but it's happening ..

The thing is that in all options i tested or wanted to , the S2x and the opal are the only 2way 7/8inch speaker that goes that deep !!! really no sub needed !!

i really think that if the port was in aluminum or metallic , the rattling will not be the same;;...i also tried the form in : problem solved but i ain't gonna do that ...lol

But look. S1X and S2X are fine as compact near-field all-around monitor. They perform very transparent.

I am going to test PSI 21 or 25 in Ivo place soon (and Quested). And I do believe PSI would be better then SX line or Geithains. I like S4X line from Adam - famous speakers.. but still. If you are looking for real mid-range.. it should be placed in much bigger room to perform as should. For your room S2X are optimal. But PSI would be bit more accurate but without huge sub-fq.

It seems we are in the same business Jeezo! I am also hip-hop se for decade. So I know how important it is to hear good low-end. You can still use sub with PSI.

Me personally considering of getting second mid-field pair of PSI or Quested. Yes. I would like to keep s1x. But having a bigger palette of monitors can be very useful. This is the reason why I didn't upgrade to S2x or S3x.. because I know that I would need a second mid-field or MAIN pair. I don't like Adams in mid-field. But they are great as nears.. especially S1x,S2x models.

Don't like subs either. Sometimes it can work, but more often it is just tickling your balls but in the end actually gets in the way of good decisions.

Lets hope they're both just defective your ones. But if thats by design I would look elsewhere, 2 grands worth of monitors should NOT be rumbling like that!.
I can play a very loud 50hz on my PSI and there's no noticeable port chuffing of any kind whatsoever, nada, zero. Clearly not all bass reflex port designs are created equal...

+1 on all that. And these things go VERY loud, very comfortably. Nothing chuffs, nothing rattles, nothing hits bullshit limiters, for there are none.....

just put the same amp (twice as powerful) and the same freq respons and you will see ....

I was talikng with a friend Mastering engineer ..and he just laughted telling me : this is the ported econvenient (he own the ATC 100) , super low freq response , but port nois are invetable if high power is on the menu , unless you have big big case ....and ports that goes with it ...don't trip and use as planned your sub


For real those babay have a sound pressur impressive , just ask S1x owner and imagine the big brother ....

I do think that the port design on the psi and opal (linear) is better to avoid that noise ....the opal offers the same power and lows (not quite sure so the S2x lows impressed me) but with more air port surface and a biiger case ...

The s2x are reaching the design limit ...imho ...but we all no that fun is near the limit ! lol

A good port design is one which has limits which stay outside of my working environment, i.e. I never get to hear the limit be crossed.

If its clipping hard with the limiter light permanently on, then maybe. But just how loud was that kick drum?, did you have an SPL meter to measure? (set to C-weighting fast max mode 1m distance)

Of course there's always the possibility the signal was clipping somewhere before hitting the monitor and so the distortion was earlier in the signal chain, but I think you would have spotted that.

The thing is that on the S7x we have less power : 2 vents ...

S3A do this too fi you push them too much. More often than not there is too much bass in the mix when that happens. It is relatively easy to get there, because S3A have very "stiff" sounding bass, emotionally unsatisfactory. So you have to rewire your brain to compensate. At least that's my experience.

So I can imagine these smaller adams are much easier to get out of their comfort zone. Remember, these are very small speakers, quite cheap, but at the same time they have resolution (mids and up) that no other cheaper have. You pay with the bass though. If you want to work loud, you need bigger speakers.

Matucha : yep , i ain't stressing that much (less then before) as i know that with the sub linked : no issue (and that was my plan , at then end 2* Sub8/10 +s2x)

I validate 100 % what you said about the bass , and this is why a sub is (when you're used and knows how to set up) a pure joy ....it help the "no brain gymnastic thing" ...

but i found it happens with all brands ...we're so used to ear bass heavy music in super bass heavy places (club, cars , hifi stuff, heaphones ect) that when you hear super accurate bass response monitors, it seems like wtf , where the bass at , and then need to do that brain work ....

Just to a boom box or NS 10 for one hour and then mix on any linear monitors tha goes down 35 and see the smile on your face

Basing on the Rocks I'd say deep and precise and tight bottom, yes. Emotional or even just meaty, nope.

I'd say ADAM bass is a bit specific. But I haven't heard the new ones. My solution to this problem was to buy geithain rl901k. And these give me very satisfactory bass and much less distortion than s3a.

Hopefully subs will help you to get proper bass down to 30hz (and your room is basstrapped enough).

Currently using adam sub12 with S3A's, so a sub IS doing the 22-50hz area already.
