I understand what you're thinking but I don't think that's the way to go about it. just find a monitor that works for you that's relatively flat and unless you have proper room treatment, no matter what monitor you get, you have a room that probably has exxagerated, say 64hz and then again at 128hz and then a huge dip somewhere else. I think you can look for broadstrokes in a budget nearfield, but really overall, most manufacturers are trying to make them pretty flat.

then i wouldnt mind goin for the KRKs.. i needed a flat sound but heard that most monitors in this price range have Some exaggerated frequencies.. so i thought why not go with some monitors that would exaggerate to my benifit..:-)... was also thinking of yamaha hs80 or jbl lsr 2328p..
Yamaha hs80 are nice, I'm demoing a pair of the LSR 2328s which I also think are great. However, I think the JBLs don't have quite enough power or bass in general. HS80 will definitely kick their ass in the loudness area.
I'm about to do a comparison with the KRK Rockit 5's vs. the LSR 2328's. I'll let you know what I find. I also wanted to try the sub with the LSRs, because I think it could be nice. You said $500-700, for about $800 you could get either rockit 5s or the LSRs plus their matching sub. Or Rockit8s, or the Mackie MR8. Really you have a lot of good choices in that price range, you need to listen for yourself and see what's important to you.
I personally like the KRKs or the JBLs, or the HS80. Haven't heard the HS50 but heard it's weak. I also think all the Mackies are pretty good.
