ROKIT RP10-3 Studio Monitors Speaker KRK SYSTEMS

Interesting. Have heard very mixed reviews about the Rokit range, but am wondering if this 3-Way version will bring any improvements to the party. Not sure if it will, but the jury is always out until it has been heard in person.....

I have Rockit Rp8's and I think they sound VERY good... but not in a mixing context, more like an actual speaker to listen to music!

This what I think of the Rokits.

i really wanna like them as a monitor but unfortunately this looks like another n00b catcher. Would make a killer stereo home theatre system though if paired with a krk sub

I think they'd make a nice pair of secondary units, for maximum intimidation at a reasonable price. Spend your real money on on some surgical nearfields, and have a couple of these to blow the clients away!

Not including half-space compensation for in-wall mounting is a very unfortunate omission. I suspect these monitors will not be suitable for nearfield use as the relative distances between the drivers will keep changing significantly as you move back and forth, causing phasing and imaging weirdness... These would have been perfect for mounting in-wall, had they offered built in compensation. There is a serious hole in the market for inexpensive in-wall three way mini-mains...

Add a sub? Really?? Those include a 10" sub and spec down to 38Hz... You want to torture someones or make music??

it would only make sense to add a sub if used as a home theater system. ie. NOT for music production.

I need to be able to, for example, check for AC rumble or other crap in the last octave... Headphones usually gets me most of the way but it's best to have speakers also.

Judging by the street price of the RP8's at $250 and a 10 inch sub at around $400, I'm going to guess street price of $450 so that you can get a pair for under $1000.

Well, in the home audio and audiopphile audio world, some subs are crossed over around 40 or below. Thats sub bass. Many people have subs that roll off at 40Hz. That is not sub bass in the true sense of the word.

Questionable move from KRK imho.. Would've made more sense
to come up with a 3-ways VXT monitor than the, uhm, RP.. 'nuff said

I'm not an audiophile, and quite honestly, I would be more concerned about its overall fidelity.

I concur with Retinal, a V series version would have been much more interesting.

I wouldn't let a model number form your opinion on a product you haven't yet heard. In most cases, a manufacturer finds a hole in their product offerings that needs to be filled. In the RP series they probably wanted (or needed) a higher tier product. Hence...this.

Maybe, maybe not. The V88 was never successful, neither was 13000B.

If these retail for $1000 a pair, they have the market to themselves as there is nothing else in that price bracket. And like I said earlier, these would make a nice secondary set if you already have analytical nearfields.

zzound is advertising these at $499 each. They are going to sell like hotcakes!

KRK RP series are solid performers... Yes there is better but monitors but the price will get ya! Rp8 are great for $450-500 a pair. Going this route for beginners and novice gearheads are great, this allows us to grab a better mic, pre, or other needs that might be wiser in investing.... You have to get use to your monitors... With that said!!

The rp could use a mid-boost, just a lil hard to hear where your at in the mix. tutt

But the 10"woofer with the 4" mid and 1 1/2 tweeter should be what "I" need should be GREAT!!

I'd be interested in hearing these. I'm really not a fan of the KRK Rokit series. Yehyeh they're good for the price, but there's no midrange presence, and the top-end is all angular and jagged IMO. I wonder if they've polished up the performance of the tweeter on these...

Thing is, they are listing the amp as only 140w rms (with no breakdown per speaker cone). If this is the total rms watts per speaker cab, it's quite low for a speaker of this size. It takes a lot of watts to move and control a 10" woofer accurately at a good db level. This monitor might have some lows, but not at a good pumping volume level, unless you like a lot of distortion

You (in theory) could do better with a used pair of JBL LSR32's (12" woof 3-ways) and a used Hafler 9505 amp, probably around $1500 total on the used market.

A set of brand spanking new powered 3-ways for $998 is great value no matter how you look at it. The KRK RP series aren't the best speakers around, but at their respective price points you can't knock them.

I am not worried about the power. The RP8G2's are loud enough for most, so I doubt it will be problem for these. If you are thinking a traditional large control room and these as midfields, you miss the point; not that a large control room would ever buy these anyway.

These are great value for people who have a set of analytical nearfields and just need something to quake the clients. The ADAM A7 users, for example...

If these are going to sell as well as I think they will, no doubt others will follow suit. Now, imagine a Yamaha HS120m 3-way...

EVEN MY Yamaha NS10M use a 250 Watts amp.
140 / 3 = 46.666 watts. Also the 10" woofer will need at least 120 watts to power otherwise it will just play back nothing but sXXX. it left only 20 Watts for the 4" cone and 1"Dome.

OH MY , is it tri-amp at all?
because even their early RP series are bi-amp.

With the size and amount of voices of this speaker, there should be a 350 Watts build-in tri-amplified for this speaker....

but then that would probabely ends up same price as a KRK e8B ;P
