Really in love the InnerTUBE Audio "Revamp" DI/combo box..that thing sounds like an amp straight to tape...it is the only one that can beat out my Ampeg SVT in the track, I cannot even believe it sometimes,

Also LOVE the Acme Motown DI box. This unit sounds thick and dense with a sweeter high end sound. Lovely for bass...loses all that top end garbage I don't want, and give you back silky dense mojo,

The NPNG Active DI is my go-to for "clean", this little widget transfers emotion of the bass and is really round sounding, while being super clear. It has a high output level with ultra low noise. It is ultra transparent with a hint of that NPNG class A vibe. It doesn't "hurt" your ears when you hit the instrument harder,

I built the Bumblebee Spark and it's become my go-to for bass; compared it this week to the RND (certainly no slouch in the DI department!) and there's no beating the Bumblebee. YMMV.

Is The InnerTUBE Audio DI available for purchase yet? Couldn't find much info on the net.

JDV is a versatile box, but the DI signal it producess is a little dark and it takes away some of the harmonics like almost all DI boxes I've heard, except the SVT which maybe ad harmonics.

I hope I get to test this box sometime. I will ad Revamp in my "shop 'till you drop" -list :D

He has two options that are popular,
The "REVAMP", which stands for "rear-end-vacuum-assisted-mojo-provider",
is a Combo-unit with One Channel Tube DI & One Channel "REVAMP" re-amp, which takes a line level balanced input, and "revamps" to instrument level output.

The other option is a TWO-channel Reamp. That unit is more Rare. Who needs TWO TUBE REAMPS!? Well, you don't know you do until you try it out!

I got a demo flying around and its pretty mind blowing. If you do a lot of reamping anyway. Which I do..I also have found you can just patch in on a Line level insert with the DAW and its "mojo" makes a world of difference, takes a thin razory vocal and makes it plump and phat...Similar to Stayne's other Octal Tube-Transformer Circuits,

After much experience, You CANT make the Revamp sound bad no matter what....It has a trim knob with that lets you dial in the amp. Seems to interface with every type of amp, even kooky modded ones with weird inputZ. To my ears, this unit is like the player is back in the room with the instrument and amp. I can hear and feel the fingers on the instrument...Coming back from a winky DAW box...I can't explain it, but it sounds BIG and loses all the scratchiness & thin sound.

I just wanted to bump this thread and add my thumbs up for Dan Deurloo's ZOD ID Bass DI....I recently used it in a hard rock album and it was incredible.

For quite some time now I've been gravitating more and more towards using the DI input on my go to pres for this applications, which are the JLM Audio TG500 and the Shadow Hills GAMA; ocasionally UA6176. But if we're talking standalone DI boxes, A-Dessigns REDDI.

Hm... strange. I don't find the JDV to be dark at all. In my opinion it is ULTRA presise and extremely detailed. What you put into it is what you get out. And how exactly can a DI take away harmonics??? It doesn't ADD any harmonics but that's a different thing altogether.

The JDV is my favourite DI for bass. Amazing sound and extremely flexible. I can see how some people may find it a little boring compared to something like the REDDI or the SVT but that's two totally different things in my opinion. The REDDI/SVT are great products but more about getting closer to an amp sound without the amp. With the JDV I can color the sound down the signal path if I want to, or add some character from an mic'ed amp without the DI signal getting in the way. Or keep it ultra clean. For bass I usually end up with amp plus the JDV into something Neve'ish plus LA2A or 1176 (or both). Not so super clean anymore after that treatment but the huge, detailed sound of the JDV still shines through. The way it handles deep lows and transients is simply superb! Insane headroom! And the fact that it doesn't have a "sound" of it's own is probably it's strongest point in my opinion. It's one of those pieces of gear that just works with everything, feels rock solid and is totally over spec'ed in every way!

When using the JDV with passive pickups, turning the Drag control down could result in a dark sound. If the user isn't aware of this, they might deduce that the JDV always sounds that way.

Responding to an older post here, but this keeps getting my attention; the M103 I mean.

Another thread here included a four DI comparison (Neve, API, M103, and AEA pre with Radial DI), and for me, the Grace came a close second after the AEA/Radial combo. Hated the Neve.

Usual YMMV caveats apply.

ZOD here too ... i use a little labs IBP as well sometimes .. but ZOD is a different beast .. about 15 times Heavier in Weight at least .. and Size .. ya know Bigger is Better in DI's !!!!

You are right about JDV being "soundless", and I actually like it better when I try to produce sub frequencies. Maybe I have to start to record 2 DI signals in the future :D. SVT has tubes and they ad a chorus like effect especially to the high frequencies and can this way sound more Hi-Fi. Many producers add this chorus with effects to make the top end of the bass sound more stereo.

LA2A adds more of that tube Hi-Fi, but reissues can be even a bit too nasal and can loose some good sub frequencies. Some of the new 1176 act the same.

I like the evil twin as well. Super easy because it just sounds good.

You need at least 3 different ones to cover all the basses out there (more like 4 or 5 really)... no one DI will work on every source.

I will state this to my dying day... because I can prove it.

No DI manufacturer will ever tell you this.

The Wolf Box is my go to these days... it's the one I start with. Good enough for James Jameson and Bobby Babbitt then it's good enough for me... right behind that is the Tab 71, the Evil Twin the Retropect, the Ampeg holds her weight too. If none of these work on the source I go to my custom made DI's. One of them will handle the job.

I've got a few options over here but the only one I'm using regularly is the Phoenix audio nice di. It imparts some lovely harmonics in the midrange.. kind of sweetens the top end, and the lows are nice and tight.. bass sounds 'nice' and full.

Zod ID DI, Little IBP, Countryman, line out of amplifier, etc .. whichever one works best .. and sometimes 1,2, or 3 DI's together ala Geddy Lee ..

I hope to get my hands on the Sonic Farm Tantra bass preamp soon for some upcoming sessions. Obviously more than just a DI, and a way higher price point, but could be the ultimate unit for me for bass tracking.

So many great DI's that do the job.

That thing looks amazing. Please post your impressions. As a bassist and engineer, I would love to have a uber-flexible channel strip like this which also acts as an amp head for when you want to mic up a speaker.

Will do. I've got sessions next month with a former top LA session bassist (former only as he's moved out of LA now), so I'm hoping to have a Tantra by then to track him with. Should be fun!
