Any XR727 stereo EQ users here?
I allready own an API Lunchbox but really like the idea of having a stereo SSL XL 9000 K Channel (from the SSL Duality & AWS consoles) in a small box
As far as I know there's no alternative right? The SSL 500 EQ is a different beats am I right?
Most of the time I have it patched in on my group bus for keys along with the XR627's for a bit of VHD and filtering.
Think it can be good for almost all group bus duties actually, but I don't think I will ever patch it in on my stereo bus though. I have 1073 and API 5500 EQ's available for my stereo bus instead as I prefer to have 'mojo' there in case I find something's missing. The SSL is more of a clean frequency enhancer if you get what I mean. Perfect for instruments where you can't dial in that last piece of balance you'd like to the sound.
I would recommend having filters available pre or post these EQ's though.
I love mine. I have 4 and use them during tracking drums (overheads and 3 stereo rooms). Upon mixdown I use them on my guitars and keys busses. I have 12 E EQs too and they have a bit more mojo but having quick stereo in such a compact module is brilliant.
I've tried the Maag EQ4 and I was very impressed. So impressed that a pair is on my to-buy-list.
I haven't A/B'ed them side by side, but as far as my memory can compare them, the Maag's are more "grabby". With fixed frequencies it's 'optimized' to sound excellent there. Hard to make anything sound bad. The Air-band was a sweet surprise as well :-)
The SSL's are more useful in the regard that the frequencies are sweepable and offers Q on two bands. But owning one or the other doesn't make the other redundant.
Haven't had a chance to demo the Elysia yet. But the price tag makes it quite tempting to try one out.
