Back in the day, when I was recording to a tascam 38 8 track reel to reel, I hated bouncing tracks, so placing the sm81 s down near the toms worked really well for toms and cymbals
Add a kick and snare mic, drums on 4 tracks was really good!

The Neuman works great overall OH

We use a dual pair of CS 1000 for the room mics... mounted at the top of ceiling

AKG D3600 on the kick

AT pencil mic on the snare/hat

and 414 on the low tom ..

I had a friend‘s indie band over at my place last year.
We placed the kit in my live sound company storage,
using the PA as a diffusor behind the kit while using gobos to the sides an under the ceiling for absorption.
Iirc, the mics were

Kick in EW SR20LS/ kickpad
Kick out UT47
Sn top/ bot EW DM 20/ M201
Toms EW DM 20
OH AEA N8
FOK C&T El Diablo
HH KM84
Stereo Room Lauten LA120 omni
Mono Room (in the adjoining bathroom) MD21

nice setup.

i used to do similar but id also run the close drum mics through the PA system to really excite the room.

indeed. that kind of thing only works in very limited circumstances. haha. looks like a really nice setup and id imagine its a pretty large room.

It's quite big indeed, somewhere around 7x15m and has a nice wooden floor.
Unfortunately, ceiling height ist quite low though and the previous tenants put up a plastic ceiling which I can't remove without risking to expose decades worth of dirt. And mold. And dead rodents.
There might also be some kilos of coke or bodies - the place used to be a Red Devils headquarter before I moved in...

Lovely stuff Paul! How do you end up processing the knee mic in a setup like this? Does it make up a big part of your drum sound?

Thanks Mate, it’s the AEA N22 which is for close up phantom powered work. It sounds like an RCA 77DX I use it to glue the kit together or add character. Probably add some Saturation to make the kit sound more like a break beat.

Started producing a band last week and tracked basics at London Bridge; all drums were through the console's 1081s.

Kick in: Beta91A
Kick out: Solomon LoFrEQ
Snare top: Lewitt MTP 440 DM (this was an experiment, but it paid off - loving this mic!)
Snare bottom: Beta181
OHs: Soyuz 013fet
HH: Mojave MA-101fet
Ride: 414B-ULS
Toms: ATM-25
6" concert tom: Lewitt DTP340 TT (again, an experiment, but I dug it)
FOK: Soyuz 017fet
Kit sides: Ear Trumpet Labs Delphinas
Wall: TLM-170s

I've just bought a red sparkle Cleveland from the very early 1960's. They are very rare here in the UK too.

Those beautiful Rogers kits are nearly impossible to find in Canada, I've seen the early 60s champagne kit once in the last five years and for an insane price. They are probably on the safe investment list for collectors/speculators.

that's one room i always wanted to work in. maybe someday.

a few records cut there were definitely a huge inspiration to me doing this crazy gig in the first place.

Started in on a record with an artist that I play percussion with today. I'm playing a Hinkley and Schmitt water bottle with DW foot tambourine and Meinl foot cabasa.

Bottle top: Octava MC012 hypercardioid
Bottle mouth: Beyer M88
Tamb/cabasa: sE T2 cardioid

I made a sample, but I forgot to put it on my thumb drive. I'll add it later.
