I am waiting on an XDesk to use as a side car.. The inversion of what used to be.. The side car for colour....Now for clarity. I have an idea of running acoustics through it either when that's all there is in the program, and one wants a clean signal, or when I wan't to combine it with the warmth of the Toft. It will be cool if the stereo in on the XDesk will handle the feed from the Toft. Then it will be just be in fact cascading and of course much easier work flow, and the mix will be using the XDesk as the last stop before my stereo out to the stereo recorder. Can you say headroom???

Use the insert sum (Sigma) function of the X-Desk to feed the Toft into. This will mix the 2 signals pre-main faderthumbsup

I had time to power it up and run some signal through it last night. Just monitored on headphones, but I have to say it is one open sounding piece, without sounding brittle at all. I ran some mixes through it to compare and the mid range was truly detailed compared to what I was used to hearing. Then some BFD2 drums just cranked where the red light was engaging just a little and what impressed me the most, being such a little mixer, when you pulled the faders down the to nil......total silence. No leakage.That sounds like a rediculous statement, but it is not unusual that others in that price with even more channels, do not succeed in total silence with a heavy load.

One thing I will mention is cables were another 500.00. I know I know, all mixers need cables, and I have about 4000.00 worth of regular leads on my cable wall at all times... let alone what's in use.
Just not ones to use on this unit..hahha....but that's a small bitch for such a great sound.
This is a great solution for in the box people, and people like me who want clean sounds along with their coloured setup. I can see a lot of Neve or API users, using one of the these....just my opinion. A single channel of either of those is the same price of admission.

I have now ordered the AWS 900 and expecting it to arrive by the end of this week.

Now I'm trying to planning the patchbays and cabling. Has anyone got a tip for sub-grouping using the 8 buses? I want to be able to return them to the AWS.

Here is a sample patchbay setup. I just have the group outs show up on the patchbay, they could be used fpr a lot of different things, but you can also normal them in patchbay to 8 inputs of your DAW.

A question for you fellow AWS users out there. I'm having a hard time getting the midi over lan, IPmidi, solution to work. It shows only the midi in ports in Nuendo, as many as I specify in the application, but not the out ports. So I can't setup the Mackie protocol.
Has anyone got a possible solution?

Mr Wagner I have a question. What do you mean by normaled and half normaled? Are you refering to line level signals?

If you go to the MADI panel, where you set your buffer size etc. look on the left side under the buffer settings there should be a window with a number (up to 32) can't remember what it's called, something to do with MIDI. Set that number to 8 and restart the computer. Now try your setup again for the SSL Mackie control. The outputs should show up now.

Also keep in mind that the top Mackie control should be MIDI IN/OUT 3 then the next one down should be 2 and the bottom one should be 1 for the SSL to function correctly.

Anyway, reducing the amount of wdm devices in the RME Madi driver control panel did it! I actually reduces it from 32 to 16. The IPmidi driver installs its midi ports as wdm devices, and as I understand it, Win XP can only hande a total of 32.
So now, I can remote control Nuendo from the AWS and things are starting to look really good! Can't wait to get back in to the studio Monday Looking forward to change the keycaps inserts to reflect the Nuendo controls.

I did my first session with the AWS yesterday. A vocal session, so a really simple setup. One input and the return from Nuendo on 2 faders. Tried to do foldback to the artist with the AWS, but ended up using monitoring through Nuendo, to have the opportunity to give the artist monitoring of his voice with a compressor. Have yet to figure out what is the best monitoring solution.

Also, I am not totally convinced about the DA quality of the SSL Alpha-Link converter. My first impression is that my stereo listening sounded better through my Lynx Aurora (which I sold....). Will check out a few clocking options, but I might end up buying an Aurora again to use with one of the Alpha-Links, instead of two Alpha-Links.
