Question on Great River EQ Input
Hey y’all. Thought I’d bop on here to ask a question I’m having on my outboard rack gear. Here goes:
So, I have a single channel Great River ME-1NV preamp rack mounted alongside the Great River EQ-1NV equalizer. I have the preamp and EQ connected using the TRS “patch” connections on the back of each unit, which were designed so that the EQ works like an insert between the gain stages of the ME-1NV. When connected like this, the input selector of the EQ needs to be in the “MPI” (mic preamp input) position. The manual states that in MPI mode, the line input on the back panel of the EQ is disabled (I’m assuming the line output is also disabled, but it would be good to confirm that). This got me to thinking that I could also connect to the XLR input/output on the EQ and use it to process another signal just by switching over to a different position on the input selector. My main question is, if I connect to the balanced XLR input and output of the EQ with an unbalanced “Y” cable (dual XLR to TRS) and into the side chain send/return on CH1 of my compressor (Drawmer 1968 MKII), what would an appropriate input sensitivity setting be on the EQ for this purpose and with that type of connection? The options on the EQ are L+8, L+4, L-2, L-10, and L-20. I mostly process my main mix through this compressor, so I don’t expect needing to run that preamp at the same time.
