So I was getting some analog outboard for tracking and mixing in my home studio. So far I have UA 1176ln for lead vocals, Distressor for bass, and two dbx 160x for clean electric guitars/piano.
Of course any of these can be used on anything. But the applications described above are my most frequent uses.
So I was thinking of getting eqs for 4 channels to have analog processing for the meat and potatoes tracks.
As of now I am leaning towards Drawmer 1971 Dual 4-band Parametric Equalizer.
I am looking for a parametric eq with hi and low pass filters. Does anyone have any other recommendations?
EDIT!:
My bad yall i said 1971 and what I meant to type out was 1974…
I really really like my Drawmer 1974. I use it on my master bus after the SSL Bus +…
It def has a sound… but from what I hear it doesn’t eff around with phasey nonsense which is why I love it on my master bus. Easy recall. Super wide Q and broad strokes sounds really really great.
I know it’s a good EQ when I can actually PUSH the low or high mid range when needed and it sounds right- not honky/boxy/strident - on the master bus. Plus I love the air at 16k… and the shelves are really great.
I haven’t really tried it on anything else… only because once I put it on my bus I could not take it off.
I’d imagine it’d be a great overall utility bus EQ that makes recall super easy.
i would go with a pair of neve eqs and a pair of ssl eqs. if you can spend a few hundred dollars more, you can also buy an ssl ultraviolet stereo eq for $550. that collection would cover a lot of ground.
whatever you buy, do so with a 100% return policy so you can properly audition them.
