I’m not as familiar with the Crane Song AD/DA, but I use both a Red 8Pre (similar to Red 16Line) and also used a Red 8Line, with the Dangerous Source and now I use it with a D-Box+. I have separate AD/DA converters, the Convert AD+ and Convert-2 (D/A) in my chain so here’s my setup as far as connections and clocking.
AD+: (Word Clock Leader) SPDIF OUT connects to Red 8Pre SPDIF IN, WC OUT to Red 8Pre WC IN
Red 8Pre: (Clock Follower) Set in software to WC INPUT as clock source, WC OUT to CONVERT-2 WC IN, SPDIF OUT to CONV-2 SPDIF IN, ANALOG OUT DB-25 to DBOX+ Summing Input. Monitor Out L/R to DBox+ Analogue In L/R
CON-2: (Word Follower) WC OUT to AD+ WC IN CON-2 ANALOG OUT to D-BOX+ ANALOG IN to hear direct from these converters.
D-BOX+: USB for system audio or youtube etc. AES from AD+ for pre ITB FX monitoring.
*Also DBox+ has the same analogue and digital I/O connections as the Source, on rear, just with some additional summing and line/headphone outputs.
Again not as familiar with the Crane Song, but I would connect the AES IN from Source to HEDD AES Out, and connect your Monitor Outs from Red 16Line to Source. Would also use the HEDD as Word Clock Master and Slave interface to it. Since you only have 1 AES or S/PIDF digital I/O with the Source, you might have to aggregate it, depending on your needs.
