Looking into the RPQ2 compared to the TRP and wondering about the EQ. I typically don't track with EQ, so I would repurpose the preamp in the mix...what sources does the EQ do well on, other than using it on sources tracked with ribbons? Can't find too much info on the EQ other than it's use for tracking with ribbon mics, but wondering if anyone here likes using it during the mix, and in what applications.
Past couple mixes I've used the EQ on the 2buss. Sounds great, smoother than the pultec plug I usually use. The pre is super clear and articulate with a condenser, sometimes too sharp, usually use them on dynamics, SM7 and such. Never use the EQ on anything other than ribbons and on the 2buss.
That EQ is intended specifically to do what's needed for ribbon mics. It's very good for that. Both sections have sweepable corner frequencies; the LF side only cuts and HF side only boosts.
