Listen man... this ng bus compressor is a freakn beast, it's versatile and gives you such a wide range of flexibility, parallel compression can be applied with ease and the iron stage does something special to the low end, the amount of control that this baby gives you is honestly top notch, the dry/wet, the mid side,stereo or dual mono options, the THD which is a quality of many of the other wesaudio products(dione,prometheus etc....) I personally have not been able to take it off my master buss, it just makes everything sound better, the fact that you can control this tank from your computer with a plugin makes the price tag on this more than worth it, I know I'm late to this thread but if your thinking about buying this please bless your ears, your studio and listeners of your work with the Wesaudio ngBusComp!!

Some time ago I had a chance to listen to the Dione.. and was nice.. but when we compared with the smart c2 (which I don’t like that much on master bus) was a night and day difference. The c2 smoked the Dione on every aspect.

So your enthusiasm for the ngbus is nice! But maybe you know how does it sounds compared to the other ssl style compressors like Smart c2/c1, BM bus comp, ssl x-logic, etc etc... ?

I’ve been trying out the ngBuscomp for the past few weeks and I’m really impressed

I already own a _Dione and highly rate that but this takes what I like about it to another level

Sonically it’s huge sounding with the now familiar Wes options to colour the sound (this time with their Iron feature)

Build wise I love the size of the thing and the ease of operation

In terms of referencing other SSL style mix comps I have a SSL 4K console with its centre section comp + pair of external G384’s along with Smart C1 & C2, Obsidian and pairs of 2500’s & Red 3

So way too many VCA compressors (I’ve no doubt missed a few) but enough to have a valid opinion on what sounds good

They all sound different and bring different things to the table (desk?) but I have never shied away from putting a _Dione on a mix and the ngBusComp would be equally welcome

Amazing set up! I have the DIONE and Bettermaker 502P, how doe sthe NG Bus comp sound compared to the Bettermaker Compresor? I presume they would sound quite similar, is one cleaner or dirtier than the other?

The bettermaker unit is cleaner than Wes. After a few trials, I personally like the Bettermaker unit more for 2bus duties, NgBusComp has become my goto drum bus comp followed by Highland Dynamics BG1, also a killer 2bus combination but not comparable to my BM Mastering comp + Knif Pure-Mu 2bus setup with more atta k options, and different comp modes in the BM comp... Yes, I like compression, haha ...

I was considering to buy the WES NGbus , but from all that i heard till now , Bettermaker Mastering comp is cleaner and more proper for mastering , and RND MBP is better than both , so i am going for the MBP .

Just got mine yesterday.

I´ve put it against my RED 3 on the mixbus on a Song I ve been currently working.

My first impressions are:
- The Red 3 sounds more exciting
- The NgBus is smoother. but the THD helps to get more excitement.
- Did not use the Iron on the Mix bus. (sounds to mushy for me)
- The Red 3 has a snappy tightness but with the NGbus SC I can get a bigger lowend.

I could imagine using the NGBus on more Lowend heavy material and the RED3 on other stuff like acoustic/rock. Thats my first impression after using it for 1hr.
Maybe I can upload a snippet of a current Song of both units if you want.

I Still love it. Paired it with a Darthlimiter.

I have a NGbus incoming. The guys at Wes audio was kind enough to let me demo a few of their units. Excited!

Still loving mine. It's in drum bus with Highland BG1 and Wes Hyperion. Super-cool setup that gives me everything I need.

Hey here is a short clip. Plz note: That is not a detailed test.
I have integrated the compressors in my environment, how I would use them. The two compressors can behave differently in another environment. There are dynamic EQs multiband etc on my mixbus which influence the results.
The two compressors are on a setting I liked best for each unit. I did small adjustements to the tracks for each compressors take, for example The NG bus has a SC, so I could turn the kick a little louder.

So I've been able to demo the NgBusComp now and wow.. Super versitale with all the options. And you can get some vibe out of this unit with the THD and Iron. Disengage both use the HP filter and 1:5 ratio and it's very subtle and great for mastering.

Just ordered mine to replace my SSL 4000 clone. I’ll have it connected to my Fusion and Dangerous AD+.

Would love to know how everyone is getting along with theirs and if you have any tips/tricks at this stage of experience with your hardware.

I ended up using the ngbus on kick and snare with thd + Iron. great compressor for drums.
It made the drums jump out of the speaker!

Well...RND unit is much more than a compressor and I've understood some folks like the compressor side and some don't.. Bettermaker unit is better for mastering, mostly because of it's many operation modes...But if you're looking for "That SSL sound", Wes NgBC might be a better choice.

Is the Ngbuscomp mainly for mastering?
I am pondering a coloring unit for a hydrid mixing setup.
SSL Fusion is a clear candidate, however I am intimidated with the preset and automation capability of the Ngbuscomp.
I often produce long pieces of music without breaks and having the possibility to change the sonic charateristic my automation is very tempting.

What is your advice?

Since you're a VCA comp aficionado, if I could get only one "character" vca comp from the one's you have, what would your recommendation be?

I had quite the VCA addiction a couple of years ago so I'll chime in.

So nothing crunches like the original 384. Without knowing I'd guess it's the old dbx vca that adds that character. Otherwise I've owned and tried most VCA on the market. Not the obsidian though! And I agree with the poster above all have their own thing so it really comes down to taste. But it's hard to forget that 384 crunch. It also has a steeper knee which makes it grab the source more in a nice way. Perhaps not the best for mastering but definitely for mixing!

The WesA comp is very nice and i like their THD feature and ofc the recall. I would probably go with their 500 format though but I warn ya! It's addictive haha!

You should definitely try the obsidian it’s got that sound!!! I love my obsidian! I had the smart c1, c2, tbe latest ssl 500 tbe stam audio clone and the tk audio but non came close to what the obsidian does. The obsidian also has a crazy width to it!!! Although I’ve never tried the ng comp.

I sold my Obsidian as it was horrible, the plastic face on the rack version looked awful and the sound just sounded smeared to me.
The Vertigo VSC is my favourite by a long way and I've owned most.

The Wes sounded much more solid and heavier in the low end here. Thanks for the sample.

I own the 500 series so I can’t comment on the rack version. The 500 series has more options.

i hope some users are still paying attention to this thread as i am really trying to decide between grabbing an NGbusComp or a Dione.

the price difference is what is making me hesitate between the two. i already have a Hyperion and really love it... so i'm familiar with the Wes plug-in control system.

my main concern is the audio quality between the two. headroom, noise....

there are features on the NGbusComp that i don't need.... dual mono, MS... as this will strictly be a mix bus compressor and i'm not a fan of MS compression or will i nee the dual mono features.

i already have a pair of RND 542 in my mix chain, so i'm not sure if that covers the saturation needs and maybe makes the variable THD and Iron on the NG less of a need as well.

i know the NG has 4 VCAs in the path as opposed to one in the Dione. tech support from Wes said this does make a headroom difference though it is subtle.

will getting the Dione just make me wish i had the NG? or are the extra features of the NG which i don't necessarily need really the only reason to go to that model over the Dione? i want to get whichever unit makes the most sense for me. if i can spend less than half as much doing so, great, but price is not the main driving factor.

I love Wes gear and have 2 Titans for mixing and a Leveler for automation. If I didn’t have a Vertigo VSC and an RND MBP I’d be all over the Bus comp. I have 2 Diones which I love and bring plenty to the party. The Rhea’s are out of this world. Great stuff, I don’t see a regrettable purchase either way!
